I used to live at 5600 west and 4800 north, around Lawrence and Central, Jefferson Park. I google Earthed my old neighborhood, and it didn't look much different than it did in the early 1960's. Is it still a safe, blue collar Polish-Italian-Irish neighborhood centered around St. Roberts'? It's on the Steinmetz-Schurz-Taft border for highschools.
Bulldog7972. I went back and found your post from the 6th. Thanks. That answers my question. When I lived there, I believe the Alderman was a Daley Sr. Hack named Roman Puczinski.
5600 west and 4800 north is Lawrence and Central Ave. It's still a good area and is predominately Polish, Italian and Irish as you mentioned although there is a growing Hispanic population as well as a smattering of blacks. A little further north on Central in the 5600 block are two flats which are being used as subsidized housing by some of the owners and that is dragging that area down causing problems. Probably the worst problem there however is the leftist, Democratic Alderman that wants to build a public housing building right around the corner from your old area at Milwaukee and Foster, right across from the 016th District police Station. That has become a heated issue as most of the residents there realize what it will do to their neighborhood and as a result, do not support it. The Alderman however is importing agitators to create problems every time the real residents stage a protest march at his office. All in all it's still pretty good there but I don't know how much longer that will last. I'm not sure which shootings you are referring to.

What part of Arkansas ArLEOret? My FIL moved to Mountain Home years ago. Loved the area. Trying to get my wife to take a road trip down there. Lotta retired CPD coppers there.
