He/him/hisHow long until this is mandatory?
It already is required in some places; however, I made my choice.
I use whatever pronoun I fucking well please, but I also endeavor to not use them at all.

TubetoneSo, society wastes time on this?
It was better when they just described themselves as freaks.
Been looking at the history of the phenomena lately because of a question posed to me about it. That really was what they chose for themselves as a sub-cultural identity at one time.
Some of the best answers are the simplest.
It seems the modern language gymnastics are nothing but rhetorical geocentrism.
Some hope to form a new politically-correct "Inquisition."
Just think, while our kids are burning time on this kind of stuff, Chinese kids are learning things like calculus to build better missiles.

bobtheelfI'm kind of glad people do this.
It's a clear and unambiguous sign that I don't need to take them seriously.

gearhoundsPersonally, I’d be taking the “have nothing to do with them” route. If it was unavoidable for work purposes, I’d never say a name, pronoun, or any identifier. It’d be “hey”- that’s it. “It” would get the hint eventually.

About 10 years ago we were all called into a mandatory meeting where we were informed that a fellow employee named Paul would henceforth be known as Paula and would be using the women's restrooms. We were also told that any objections, complaints, snide remarks or giggles would result in immediate termination of employment. I kept my mouth shut but refused to refer to him as "she" or "her". I he wants to call himself Paula, OK whatever. But I draw the line there.

My fantasy in that situation is that every single employee there does every single thing they listed as verboten while still doing their jobs as usual. 'Paula' would need a thick skin.

Fuck Him/Fuck Her/Fuck Off I was at a conference 3 years ago and they wanted all participants to wear a stick-on name badge with our "preferred pronouns". I refused to wear one or submit my pronouns. I was perhaps one of the only ones with out a badge. I won't play.

arcwelderSorry, we all have to interact with strangers in the world. You're going to get called "sir" or "miss" and the associated pronouns, due to how you look. It's not meant as an offense, we all don't have time to learn individual words for everyones pronouns.
Among strangers and in public, people need to "tolerate" normal pronouns.
Among people they know personally? I imagine people will accommodate them.
Arc.

Have a gander at my Bible quote below. It explains everything...
"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne
"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24 October 22, 2019, 07:05 PM

corsairI received an email from a gal in marketing that had the same 'pronoun clarification' signature

. I detest marketing types, and the people that populate that portion of the company embody much of what I dislike about humans and culture. All are 'early adopters' to whatever trend or, zeitgeist is going on in the world. She held all the stereotypes, full of enthusiasm but short on actual work or, productivity.

ScurvyThis is just simple virtue signaling. He's throwing up a flag to let all the other progressives he's one of them.
The 'logic' behind it is to be more inclusive and make trans people feel more welcome by not being singled out for having preferred pronouns...
