Remington Arms is just consolidating their business to the Lagrange Georgia facility. There are news releases stating that operating in the old NY facility is expensive and the political climate of NY are their reasons for shutting the plant down. There is also an ongoing union negotiation and if I recall correctly the new owner was bent over a barrel by NY state and the union when he purchased the Remington firearms division. He was forced to hire all the union folks that were let go during bankruptcy. I’d wager that busting up the union folks and moving to a right to work state is also a huge reason for shutting down the plant. Remington Arms is alive and well with the quality control issues being sorted out. I have handled some of the newest stuff coming out and they appear to be very well made again.

Companies move/consolidate all the time.

This is especially true of the firearms manufacturing industry, which has seen a huge exodus over the past few decades from their previous nexus in the northeast into the more gun-friendly and tax-friendly southern states.

While jobs are being lost in New York, they're being created in Georgia.

The workers in Ilion might even have the option to relocate and keep their jobs, though I get that there are usually additional factors in the decision to move out of state beyond just the worker following a job.

Yes it is. The fact that the union and state required the new owners to hire back based on seniority and not performance combined with a state that is blatantly anti firearms, what do you expect? Those people lose their jobs and people of Georgia get the new ones. Money moves where it is treated best and always will. Those jobs do not belong to the employees, they are borrowed from the company.

You might be able to make shims yourself with a 3D printer. I'm working on doing that for my Beretta A400. Used Tinkercad online to create a model of the current shim, and then adjusted it. I don't own a printer, but the local university my wife works at has them available and is going to print them for me. My parents local library also has 3D printers available for nominal charges.

Excellent idea. I wouldn’t know how to do this but on second thought, I know a guy. Husband of a woman who used to work for me. I bet I could get this done.

Thanks.

^^^^

If you're printing those, use ABS rather than PLA. PLA doesn't stand up to temperature well. ---> I had a piece ready to mail a while back, printed from PLA. I intended to go to the PO at lunchtime; the part (left in the car) deformed over the morning.

God bless America.

Why any company never mind one that cares about the 2nd amendment would operate in NY is a strange warped logic.

My first long gun was a Remington Model 11 40 years ago. Gave it to a friend after buying a Browning. Sad to see what has happened over the years.

Do you know the history of Remington? It was founded in New York more than two hundred years ago.

There was also always lots of talk about the site as well, though I've been hearing that for 30 years and don't know what the facts are. The details and how much was true I dunno, the story was always that if they kept it in operation they could sort of put off clean up of the site, one that's seen almost 200 years of industrial use. How much of that would end up being their money, vs our money, who knows.
