I’m sick of the BS Walmart particle board. It doesn’t even have to be wood. Needs some decent space, maybe a corner desk. Some drawers. Space for laptops and one large monitor.

Any brand suggestions? I want something that will hold up to abuse without coming apart. I haven’t bought such an item in 20+ years.

I’d look for something older made of real wood on any of the normal internet spots. Or an antique store.

That was my answer to the same problem a few months ago. Found a good one on Craigslist.

I got this wood table for my father as a work area and to hold his computer and printer.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Bet...and-Natural/19515575

Other places may carry it and it is a way to get started cheaply.

Would you consider building one? When I was looking for something similar, I ended up using a couple pieces of plywood, some 1x4s, and wood stain to build something the dimensions I needed.

I went with one of these "business grade" desks.

https://www.officedepot.com/a/...fice-Advantage-Desk/
Though I spent a bit less for it buying it from somewhere else, but don't remember what site.
It's pretty heavy and really solid.

I mounted one of these sliding drawers underneath https://www.amazon.com/Qline-U...id=1614823832&sr=8-5

My wife found me a really solid oak one on Craigslist. Has its scars but weighs like 125 lbs and it's 6' wide.

She gave the $75 to pick it up and it required furniture dollies to move.

I bought a large heavy 5 drawer wood desk some 2 decades ago to serve as my home computer and work space. Still using it. But will say the roller systems for the drawers has proved less robust than I'd like although still functional.

This is the style although again, the left drawer bank has only two, the lower of which being a large filing cabinet sized drawer. Sorry, I don't recall the brand.

With the economy as it is, you may want to check out a used office furniture store. If you have any local to you.

I bet they have a good inventory right now.

You want this Husky 72" adjustable height workbench.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hu...OLT72XDBJ2/312063232

It's like a standing desk, but you get a heavy duty work surface.

You can buy separate drawer units to put underneath.

2 file cabinets, a door and some 4x4's in the back for legs. I've been using mine since 1996. There's a ton of real estate to work on.

I’m using a section of butcher block counter top I git at IKEA with a couple 2 drawer filing cabinets. Won’t win any interior design awards but has a lot of space for my computer and monitors.

With all the businesses destroyed by Covid, desk deals are out there to be had.

I picked up some secondhand desks off craigslist about 10 years ago. They were Bush Business Furniture Hansen Cherry Series C. I replaced a couple of slightly damaged gray support 'legs' and added a matching connector, drawer and wheeled file unit. So they are a right and left handed six foot long desks with a four foot connecting it all together in a large 'C' shape. Like this including the rolling file and drawers but with a second mirror curved desk continuing on the right side of the pic. All the pieces are thick and the desktops are significantly more substantial and have some sort of clear coating that gives them way more survivability than typical WalMart, Ikea types.

Or, look to the local auctioneers. Generally, always a good selection of quality business office furniture available that can be had for pennies on the dollar.
