The Senate Pro Tem in California is going through a bit of a shift as well. He has been big in the Latino caucus. A recent article in the local paper, to which he was reluctant to be interviewed, showed that his original last name was Leon - later changed to de Leon(with the requisite accent mark over the o). While his father was born and raised in Guatemala, he was of Chinese background.

de Leon is now joining the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.
