They walked the goal post over 3 miles and chunked it in the river after taking down The Tide. Vanderbilt has been the whoopin’ post in the SEC, like Rice was back in SWC days. Not today. https://www.tennessean.com/sto...a-upset/75547227007/

It's a good thing Nick Saban isn't there anymore. Some Bama players would be in the river along with the goal post. Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

Ummm... according to the article it was the Vandy fans that did this, not Bama! _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

Fighting the good fight |
His point was Saban would be throwing the Bama players in the river for losing! (Especially to the perennial worst team in the SEC...)

As a Vandy grad and even longer suffering fan, this win was a long time coming and it felt so sweet. I was at the last win (in Tuscaloosa) in 1984 so it was nice to see the 40 years and string of 23 straight losses come to an end. Though I may have missed some, the only other time I can recall Vandy tearing down the goal posts was 1982 after beating Tennessee. Since it had been at least several years, the SEC fined Vandy $100K for this "first offense." Several pieces of game memorabilia (including the goal post, which was pulled from the river and is being sawed up in pieces) are up for auction to help pay the fine, though I expect some boosters probably had their checkbooks out before the goalpost made it out onto West End (which intersects Broadway and goes to the Cumberland).
Malachi Moore is my candidate for that after he banged Vandy quarterback Diego Pavia's head off the turf while "getting up," throwing a mouthpiece, refusing to come out of the game, and kicking the ball away after the ref set it for the next play. He didn't get caught on the first two but got an unsportsmanlike conduct call on the last one. He apologized today saying that it was the heat of the moment. There may have been some internal, unpublicized punishment, but Bama Coach Kalen DeBoer decided today that would not include suspension, as had been called for by many VU and Bama fans alike. https://www.tuscaloosanews.com...i-moore/75409716007/ *** "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam (I will either find a way or make one)." -- Hannibal Barca

Staring back from the abyss |
As a student, I can fully understand letting your emotions get the better of you and participating in tearing down the goal posts and carrying them wherever. As a nearly 60 year old man I wonder if any of them were arrested. It's funny what age'll do to a fella. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

You're right about that. These young kids created memories that will last a life time. Good clean fun.
He would have had a stroke for sure. Saban was the only coach in recent memory that would chew out the coaching staff for the other team. Sounds more like vandalism and destruction of property. And the school got a $100,000 fine. Yea. The Nashville FD had to fish it out of the river - great use of taxpayer money. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. How many years in prison should these gang bangers get? Maybe they should have had the campus police crack some heads and call out the National Guard. Rationalize all you want. The school has to spend its finite resources to fix it. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Miss Terry wouldn't allow that. The goalposts came down in Knoxville two years ago when they beat Bama. And, it costs 15k to replace. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

As long as I can remember, goal posts have been torn down after huge wins in college football. I'm an Alabama fan but I was happy to see Vandy have their moment. HA! Arkansas was fined $250,000 and they did not tear down the goalpost.

^^^ SEC Shorts was a hoot, with the celebrating royalty character harkening back to the episode from week one of this season when Vandy knocked off Virginia Tech (which, incidentally, is my grad school alma mater).
The difference in the amount of the fines was that it was a first offense for Vandy ($100K fine) versus second offense for Arkansas ($250K fine) according to SEC rules. Each subsequent offense results in a $500K fine. *** "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam (I will either find a way or make one)." -- Hannibal Barca
