Bushes and tree limbs are starting to get coated and the roads won’t be far behind. They’re calling for a half an inch of ice with 3/4 possible in some areas. It’s also going to be above freezing for about 4 hours in the upcoming week so it could get rough. This reminds me of ‘09 when we got hammered also.

Oh man. Sure hope they are wrong. Been through those a few times and that much ice always destroys trees and power lines. Good luck !

Wait, what? |
I went through a horrific ice storm in AL in the late 90’s; the constant crack and crash of tree branches all night made sleep impossible and the region was devastated. My part of WV (Ripley), rainy now, changing to ice after midnight, then snow. We also got hammered in ‘09...had just moved to WV from Ne. I had never heard trees snapping and popping...I thought someone was shooting, big trees coming down. No power for a week I think. Got a whole house Generator now. Truly hope we don’t need it.

‘09 was crazy. That’s what I remember most about it- moving tree branches out of a roadway and hearing popping and cracking overhead and waiting for something to drop on my head.

09 here was about 2 inches of ice. Tonight we re supposed to get 1/4 inch.

Probably the same one I went through when a tree fell on the power line and ripped the meter box completely off our house.

Down here in central Texas, the schools are already on standby....ice is expected tonight/tomorrow..... Wondering if we run to the store and buy all the eggs,Mike &bread like they did in NC? Don’t know how long ago that you left NC, but it’s still the same here. LOL.

Being down here in south Louisiana and the weatherman saying that there is a possibility of a "Wintery Mix" on Monday morning is starting to make a lot of the locals really nervous. The local agencies just do not have the resources to cope with type of weather so I am going to keep my fingers crossed. Personally spent several winters in central Alaska so I know what cold temperatures and wintery conditions are capable of causing. ........................................ drill sgt.

Start saving water in anything you can find. You'll need it if this storm is anything like what I experienced back in 1994. Trees falling all night long. We were without power for 20 days. I never want to go through that again. Here are some photos of the aftermath someone posted to Pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/meli...f-1994-in-the-delta/ Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

It's not easy being me |
Good luck. I'm in Nashville, and while the local Nashville weather people act like it's going to be bad here, it won't be as bad (at least here) as the ice storm we had in Nashville in February, 1994. I have many stories from that ice storm... My Dad used to tell me about the ice storm his junior year of high school at the end of January, 1951 in Nashville. It was apparently much worse than the '94 ice storm from all accounts I've read over the years. I hope everyone stays safe! _______________________________________ Flammable, Inflammable, or Nonflammable....... Hell, either it Flams or it doesn't!! (George Carlin)

09 was pretty bad I wasn’t here but 03 was supposed to be worse. Lastnight was nothing. Few trees down and some slick spots but Christmas Eves snow was a lot worse for traffic than this. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I had to go to Lexington about a week after the 03 storm and it literally looked like a war zone. Trees, branches, utility poles and power lines were down everywhere. It was crazy. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

Fighting the good fight |
We had a little ice Tuesday into Wednesday. Enough to cause some traffic issues, but no major ice damage. But now we're bracing for another couple bands starting Sunday, bringing ice and snow (potentially a foot or more of snow), along with below zero temps and wind chill down to -20 or lower. I'm sure that same system will make its way to KY by the middle/end of next week. The '09 ice storm was brutal here as well. Tons of damage, most people without power for a day or three, and portions without power for a week or more.

Had a wind storm a month ago. Knocked the power out for 35 hours or so. Both generators worked great. Our place was like a shining beacon in the wilderness. No nervousness here. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I purchased my first Generator (Honda EU2200 Inverter) a few months back. I've had a Honda EM5000sx on backorder since early Jan.. I'm hoping it will ship in the next couple of weeks. Man, am I glad I don't have to worry about that stuff anymore. I was in Lexington for '03, what an experience that was. '09 was a walk in the park compared to '03. Talked to my parents this morning back there, they are fine. Just a little ice for them, meanwhile it's 61 here currently as I glance at the palm trees out my window.
