Looking for recommendations for a set of tires for a Honda 750 Nighthawk. Dunlap was the OEM. Front 110/80-18 Rear 140/70-17 Running Michelin Pilot Road 4 on the ST1300, they stick like glue. Looking for something similar for the Nighthawk. Would you stick with the Dunlaps or opt for something else?

I have PR4's on the FJ, and everybody I speak to is raving about the PR5. Definite upgrade from the stock Dunlops. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

If you are sticking to the stock sizes the first thing you should do is to find out what manufacturer offers a line of tires in the sizes needed. In many older bikes like mine that really defines the boundaries of your search. My 1985 Nighthawk has a set of Avon Cobras on it and I really like them. There was VERY FEW OPTIONS available for my 1986 Nighthawk because of the 16" front wheel so I ordered a set of Pirellis, which I also really like.

Would like to stick with the stock size or something close, as not to mess with the OD.

For maximum stick, I'd look towards Metzler or Perelli. The Michelin isn't bad either. The Dunlop or Bridgestone may be a better brand for durability, but wear = traction, so pick your poison.

The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
I always ran the stock dunlops on my 86 650 nighthawk. I liked the ride with them so I stayed with them but I can't say that other tires wound not be a better ride. I am currently running a perelli on the rear of my shadow ace tourer. The shop told me they had the Dunlop in my size when I dropped off the bike but when they pulled it they found out it was the wrong size so they subbed the perelli at the same price to make it right. It’s a little firmer ride but has great grip and does not get squirrelly no matter what the road surface is. I will probably go back to a Dunlop the next time. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

I go Bridgestone. For me it is a good balance of cost and performance. Avon and Pirelli are top notch. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Staying with the OEM size, it looks like the Michelin Pilot Activ is getting high reviews. Anyone had these?

IRC tires were stock on my Suzuki C50 and I replaced them at 14K with IRC's. They still had lots of tread left , but they were too old. Very smooth ride and good traction wet or dry. ________________________ "Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme"

I had a 1980's model of the Nighthawk (great bike!) and feel that Metzler tires worked better than others (Dunlop, Continental, etc.), but that's a purely subjective view.
