Good eye. It's factory. That body-colored trim on the lower front scoop, around the base of the body, and on the wheel wells is exclusive to the 2022 and 2023 Turbo Signatures. Most of the other CX-5s, in lower trim levels and from earlier years, have black plastic trim in those locations. The Signature still has a bit of the black trim, on the window pillars, side mirror bottoms, and tailgate visor. Standard: Signature: |

| Definitely looks classier with the all body-color. A bit less soft-road/off-road able, but probably not an issue.

| It's been years, but the Murano CVT was about the worst I'd ever driven. Had one for a rental in around 2014-15 & despised it. Would have the CX (any of them) over any Nissan SUV, but I have a pretty hard bias against anything Nissan/Infiniti.

| No CVTs for Mazda, and the CX-5 in all trim levels doesn't have the engine stop/start when you come to a traffic light. Having to remember to turn off engine stop/start every time I got in the car would have driven me crazy. |

Thankfully. Interestingly, CX-5s produced for Europe and Australia do have the i-Stop feature. Just not the North American CX-5s. The new CX-50 has it, even in North America. In addition to the annoyance of the feature itself, it apparently requires a fancier Q85 car battery, which costs ~$400 to replace and has to be programmed to the car by a dealership after installation. All that for only marginal improvements in fuel economy and emissions. |

| I can't speak for the CX5, but my wife wanted a little hatchback and it was between the corolla hatchback and the mazda 3 hatchback. We ended up getting the Mazda 3 hatchback carbon edition and I'm really surprised at the fit and finish of the interior and it's a pretty nice driving little car. |

And that MPG includes playing with the turbo a bit. So it'd be even better than the Subaru if I drove the CX-5 a bit more normally.
The Forester was estimated at 24/32. The CX-5 is estimated at 22/27.
So the more powerful engine with worse MPG on paper actually gets better MPG in practice. Probably due to the engine not having to try so hard to keep up highway speeds, or speed up from a stop or to pass. Several of the long-term reviews I read about the CX-5 mentioned that they routinely exceeded the EPA fuel economy estimates.
The Forester's somewhat underpowered engine was one of the only things I disliked about it. (Though it's not as noticeably underpowered as some other examples, including the early Subaru Crosstrek that my ex-wife had about a decade ago... That was downright painful to drive at highway speeds!)
I'm seeing about the same in my Explorer. 300hp I4T gets the same mpg (24 average) as my 2012 4ctl Malibu which only had about 170hp.
