Pipe Smoker
My latest pipe purchase
I just bought yet another pipe that I scarcely need – a L’Antra freehand:

www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/est...fm?product_id=366730

I couldn’t resist – it’s one of the most beautiful pipes that I’ve ever seen. So graceful and classy. Nicely grained, and I love its color. Its chamber is relatively shallow and wide, as I like. I usually avoid bent pipes, but this one is only barely bent.

“L’Antra” is Italian for “The Duck”. Notice the tiny silver duck head atop the bit. Very distinctive compared to the usual “spot” that most makers use to mark their pipes.

$130 – very reasonable for such a gorgeous pipe.

Currently puffing Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake, in my old Kirsten Mariner. 656 is the only straight burley that I like.

Serious about crackers.

Some of mine from my collection which includes Savinelli Autographs, Nording, Peterson, Willmer, Mickles, DeJarnett, Vacher, Lorenzo, Aldo Velani, Longchamp, The Pipe, Falcon, and many more plus various makes of Meerschaum and Calabash. Lots of accessories too.

I quit smoking these and cigars when I had a heart attack and never was motivated to sell to some estate outfit like the one you bought your recent pipe from.

Is it the righthanded or lefthanded version? Big Grin

that’s very nice briar, and I agree very reasonable. I’m trying to concentrate on smooth Peterson pipes. My collection is much more modest I’m sure. My favorite is a st Patrick edition from my 50th year. Thanks for sharing.

^^ You could do a lot worse than concentrate on Petersons. I love the Virginias, but the System wound up being just a fringe benefit.

As for the new Duck, wow - when you love what bulldogs can do for you but you just don't want to settle for another bulldog.

That's a beautiful pipe. I don't smoke pipes, but I've been thinking about buying one and enjoying a smoke now and then.

Some years ago acquired a full bent block for the owner to carve themselves. Actually had smoked several bowls before any carving started. Carved off and on for 20 yrs before it was finished . ... In 1969 while in south Korea(us army) had a buddy borrow my pipe while out on pass (I was slightly tippsy) and when returned the following morning it had the smell of "wacky tobackiy"
so I immedately destroyed the pipe. ..............drill sgt.
