I had a canvas one in CHS. It would get popped open by folks looking to see what was in the bed

I was shopping for 6 months to sort out what was best choice for my needs.

One outfit had a decent looking 3 part folder, but it was only heavy vinyl with plastic rails & cost nearly $1600 installed. The Diamondback I ordered was barely 10% more than that flawed design.

I discovered Diamondbacks by accident & after suitable evaluation ordered one 14 months ago.

The flu slowed down the fabrication etc, and shipping from East Coast to West coast added some time.

After 11 months in service, the steel & hard shell aluminum remains dry & dust free, adequately secure, what won't fit in the bed can be tied down to the top of it, & you can stand on the solid cover. Their tops were designed to ride 4 wheeler upon it for field transport.

I've strapped a few things down that wouldn't have fit in my shorty bed anyway.

I sure like my diamondback HD, but let's be honest...the locks on any of these are not difficult to pick or break by a determined theif.

Like everyone else has said, they keep honest people honest. The biggest advantage is that they keep your stuff out of sight. A determined thief will make quick work of damn near any cover you put on there, so buy the one that meets the rest of your (non-security) needs the best.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I figure the steel & hard shell aluminum are decent deterrents for the spur of the moment gamers.

No idea how much the locks are likely to slow down your 'determined' thief. Given lock picking is a semi-skill, seems like that's another small deterrent.

Tweeker used a large screwdriver to pry the sidewall from the locking bar in my cheap shell back a few years ago. Multiple agency SWAT bust a few weeks later cleaned out that nest for a while.
