Purveyor of Fine Avatars |
I seem to think the avatar I created from his photo is acceptable. I'm not as critical as others seem to be about his subject matter. Avatars are personal to the people who upload them. Why should he care what others think about it? Chip away the stone |
Call me crazy, but I thought the point of an avatar normally was for other people to be able tell what it is, maybe to enjoy it a bit. I'm not being critical of the OP. Just offering a suggestion to accomplish what I suspect is part of his goal. Perhaps it should be up to him whether or not he wants to take any additional suggestions. Sorry TT for this thread apparently heading down a path you surely didn't intend.

Drill Here, Drill Now |
It’s heading down a path I didn’t intend but on the other hand people have been generous with both their time and knowledge. Splash’s sister passed away 4 years ago, and this thread helped me figure out why making an avatar out of her pics was even harder. She was 80% black and my camera was 5ish years old. An avatar of her was like 10 giant pixels sometimes (Alaska had a lot of darkness). I haven’t made a new avatar for myself in a long time. I’ll have a better eye for light & cropping plus a new tool when I do. I read through the thread and maybe i don't understand it. But it seems to me it depends on the starting megapixels (resolution?) of the pic? I used to have a cheap android phone and when I had to use it for business, I couldn't take sufficient quality pictures for the receipts. I switched to the iphone 7+ and it had enough megapixels. I used Snagit to routinely crop and resize pictures; usually for powerpoint slides. The resulting quality I ended up with depends on the starting resolution. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
