So I was puttzing around in the garage and sorting some supplies and came across some MRE's that my Dept. got for Y2K. These are the ones in the thick plastic/rubber type pouch, not the newer ones in the thinner pouch. Needless to say I 'obtained' some of these MRE's (I think the statute of limitations is past, plus I am now retired) so OK, I obtained a lot of these MRE's
Was just at 100 degrees outside today so I threw the Beef Stew packet on the cement driveway and continued on my way doing chores and yard work. After about an hour it was time to eat.
Opened it up and it smelled good, was warm to eat, had the look and consistency of dog/cat food but tasted pretty darn good. Very salty, good sized potato chunks, some peas and LOTS of beef. After 20 years in the garage during the blazing hot summers and freezing cold winters I was impressed with the way it held up.
I guess the real test will be if I am around tomorrow! This message has been edited. Last edited by: urbanwarrior238, August 07, 2019 08:57 AM

Steve's YouTube page has military rations of all ages and from several countries.
How (why) this guy survived eating so many of these old rations is beyond me.

I recommend a healthy dose of Dulcolax before bedtime and do check in with us tomorrow.

This ^^ 3-1/2 years in the army and I’m pretty sure that I’ve never had to take a shit in the field. And when that stink pickle is ready to come out you’re gonna launch one hell of a brown torpedo

Ahhh Beef Stew MRE circa late 1990's. You sir, stumbled upon a delicacy. The Beef Stew MRE had enormous trade value among grunts in the Marine Corps. When you mixed the Beef Stew, cheese pouch, small bottle of tobasco and the crackers all together in the Beef Stew pouch, you had the field expedient shepherds pie.

Interesting. We have a couple cases of MRE's stashed under the bed that the National Guard brought around the morning after Hurricane Ivan hit us in 2004. I am going to break one open to see what it looks like.

The MRE videos are fascinating, and that dude seems super chill. The candy, coffee, and smokes are always good it seems.
Great time killer.

I need a couple of packs of Camels or Lucky Strikes for my emergency supply stocks. They don't pack smokes in Mountain House freeze dried stuff.
