Well, the gear belt on my Craftsman opener is failing. The metal belt is still there but the plastic teeth on the belt are falling apart in sections. I need a new opener.

I have had "generally" good luck with Craftsman and terrible luck with Genie but it's been several years since I bought an opener.

What say the SigForum brain trust?

Avoid Genie at all costs. Absolute junk.

I have a belt driven Chamberlain and love it. It's quiet and has been 100% reliable for the past 12 or so years. Liftmaster is the same company.

I have 3 Genie Pro-Max that have given me 15 years of trouble free years. They are chain drive and not real quiet but do the job.

Liftmaster or Chamberlin are good to go. They’re same company with the former being their commercial line and the latter being residential. I have a chamberlin belt drive on one door and side mount liftmaster commercial opener on my high lift garage door and they’re both top notch. Quiet, battery backup, WiFi enabled, easy to program, cell phone app works well to open close and monitor as well.

Budget?

Features?

Overheard Door is good (in my opinion; someone is sure to tell me otherwise). Wink

New opener on my business garage connects to Wi-Fi so I can operate it from anywhere with my iPhone...and it is handy. I can also set it up with permissions; I have it set to auto-close after two minutes in case it is accidentally opened. It also texts me alerts every time it opens and closes.

I went with a belt drive-it’s quieter, not that it matters here, but if you have an attached garage or a room over the garage it is nice.

I also bought more openers than I needed because I hate having to scramble when one opener invariably goes OOC.

I've got two Genie screw drives...both are over 12 years old (at least) and have been perfect (after posting this they will probably go out within the week Wink).

Last fall replaced my 3 doors with liftmasters. Love the WiFi and new keychain remotes. To me the professionally installed was worth it. All cars remotes and pads programmed.

One thing to note. The lift masters have one solid bar vs chamberlain pieces that bolt together

As long as it works with our HomeLink buttons on the vehicles, I'm good. I really don't see a need for wifi, at least for me.

As long as the opener is study and dependable, Cost is almost no object.

I'm running a Chamberlain chain drive purchased at Lowe's.

As stated above, Chamberlain is the DIY brand of Liftmaster.

I've had the Chamberlain with the belt drive and battery backup for about 4 years now. It's been a good opener. The logic board went bad in it at about 2 years old and they sent me one for free.

Chamberlain makes a surge protector to protect the logic board.

We have a Sears (I think it's a re-branded Liftmaster / Chamberlain) that has been chugging along for 25 years or more.

Not long ago it stopped responding to the outside keypad and all remotes. It still worked with the hard-wired button at the door between the kitchen and the garage.

Bigdeal turned me on to a local independent guy (turns out he's a retired cop) who replaced a circuit board, fixed that problem.

He also identified a sensor that was starting to go bad, that was causing the door to get flaky when closing. It was opening fine, but when closing the sensor would sometimes think that something was in danger of being decapitated or crushed by the door, and it would refuse to close the door unless the button on the hard-wired controller was held. He replaced the sensors on both sides of the door with a newer type.

Our 25+ garage door opener is back to full life.

Our house came with Liftmaster belt drives, I recently had to replace the one that opens the double garage door. Didn't feel too bad, it was about 18 years old. The single door is still chugging along but there's no vehicle in that side, more of a work space.
