I will be in Seattle when they play my Orioles later this year.
Looking for decent place to stay near the stadium,if possible. Other things to do in the area, etc.
Thanks in advance.

John

The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

In my experience, “decent place” and “near a stadium” in a metropolitan city are phrases that do not go together from a safety POV. I also hope you’re not planning on walking to and from the stadium. I would suggest taking Uber or Lyft.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I think walking around in the daytime, busier areas, you’ll be just fine. My last time was about 2 years ago, stayed at the Sheraton, just a few blocks up from Pikes Marketplace.

It’s all true, lots of homeless & drug activity, just keep your normal S.A. tuned, they’ll want to avoid you. Is it the same as the football stadium? If so I’ve walked there, along the waterfront. Plenty of people in the daytime & early evening.

Not far away, a ‘Yardhouse’ & 2 higher priced Whole Foods.

When we departed and returned from our Alaskan cruise out of Seattle, we stayed at the airport with the usual hotel options and took light rail into town without issue. Looks like there's a stadium stop on the airport line. That would be my suggestion.

If you can get away from Seattle proper, the Museum of Flight, Lemay Car Museum, and the Lemay reserve collection Marymount.

That’s because the homeless shelter is a block or 2 away from there.
I walked with the wife down the blocks from the hotel to Pikes Marketplace.

After seeing all the drugged up and crazies milling around, I laughed and said, “I know EXACTLY where I’m at! This is 12th Ave & Jackson!”
A location in downtown Phoenix where all the dregs end up.

Silver Cloud is the closest hotel and sits adjacent to the stadium; literally across the street. They have their own restaurant and there's a few brewpubs near by, otherwise the area is largely light industrial; Filson flagship store is just down the street. I've stayed at Silver Cloud a few times for business, during the day easy to get around, close to historic Pioneer Square area....a mixed bag of nice restaurants, unique retailers and a menagerie of drug-addicted homeless lounging about.

Nearby is an Embassy Suites and a Courtyard both catering to business travelers and visiting sports fans as stadium is about half-mile walk. You're within a reasonable walk from the Pike's Place Market, which is next to Belltown an upscale area of retailers and eateries. Evenings from this area is an inexpensive car-share ride away...or take a scooter. All of the areas mentioned will require constant vigilance, as where there's tourism, there's predators looking to take advantage of the unaware.

I went to that Filson store a number of years ago. At the time I was a mild fanboy of their products.

Even though I try to buy American, the prices kept me at bay.

I had a similar experience at Schnee boot store in Bozeman, MT. I went there to buy, then decided to leave it to the high roller shoppers.

It's very different than just two years ago.

................

Never the less, fewer people get mugged than do, so there's that.

My choices are to be careful in the day time and begone after dark. If you have a choice walk with a companion. My wife goes to Seattle once a month, catches a taxi at the ferry goes to the playhouse reverses her field to return and has never had a problem in the half dozen years since it turned to shit. She does bring home stories off morlocks, weirdos, smells and the demented though.

Shorter answer, be home before dark, go with someone with you, pay attention and you will be fine.
