That thing needs a guard on it, to help keep the piece from being trapped inside. Other than that probably OSHA compliant.

Extending the hub would have made a nice stop for uniform cut length.

What happens when it hits a knot or nail? Without a guard the log becomes a cantilever smashing the operator in the ribs & arm pit and possibly launching them towards the PTO chopper.

Seems like a length of pipe about 12" log with an inside diameter equal to the max diameter of what it can handle to act as a feeder guide would solve that problem.

damn... the engineer popped out again.

Fully enclosed chipper is the way to go:

The last pic is with the body pulled back to expose the blades. That's the position I use to take out the blades for sharpening. In the operating position, the blades and flywheel are fully enclosed.

I think they are making wood for burning vs chipping with the Russian contraption. A chute to feed the branch in would be a safe addition to keep the wood from cantilevering up into the operator. Also a tubular stop on the wheel axis would make a good stop for consistent cuts as mentioned above.

I think its pretty cool and I bet OSHA does too.

It's in Russia and the people don't have enough money for their version of OSHA to shakedown.

Looking at that I keep thinking of the movie “Fargo” where the lady cop asks the guy to quit feeding his friend into the chipper/shredder!

I think it would be more like steaks or pork chops...thickness depends on how much the victim fought while being fed into the contraption...in Mother Russia they use the chippers to make hamburger Big Grin
