What are the advantages of having an overwing cargo box like the Belugas versus an underwing cargo box like the Antonovs and Galaxys? Try this link. In tactical aircraft (think C130 & C17), the high wing design will provide for more ground clearance on unimproved airstrips. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. |
Boeing has their own version. Aren’t they customized to transport wing assemblies? The Boeings are parked all over the airport in Charleston, SC.

Yea, looks like the front and aft sections of the fuselage. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Yeah, I didn't look too closely I guess. If those were engines, they'd dwarf even the massive 777 engines. The Enemy's gate is down.

Almost as Fast as a Speeding Bullet |
Ahh the Dreamlifter. Constant light chop in any weather conditions. Standing inside that cargo compartment is like standing in a cathedral. As much as I am Boeing guy...I dig that paint job on the Beluga. ______________________________________________ Aeronautics confers beauty and grandeur, combining art and science for those who devote themselves to it. . . . The C-5 and AN-124 are production military airlifters built in the dozens or more, designed to routinely deliver large cargo (specifically tanks, helos, and other cargo) to and from distant locations. This (and the Boeing version, and the Super Guppys) are specialized aircraft, built in VERY small numbers, are modified from existing airframes, and are used for specific over-sized cargo. The Airbus and Boeing versions carry LARGE aircraft components to final assembly points. Others have hauled empty rocket sections to launch centers. An over-wing design for these monsters would put the wing way too high above the ground and would require way too many modifications to be practical. . . I see the Dreamlifters here in Charleston frequently, can’t help but to find myself amused when I see one on approach or take off. They just seem to defy physics.

I saw the DreamLifter while in Anchorage the other day. What a beast! I think it bends the laws of physics. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." looking forward to 4 years of TRUMP!

Bought a 239 magazine for $10, got banned for free. |
Saw one come over about 3 weeks ago going to Redmond, WA at 30,000 ft. Came from Charlestown,SC. I could tell it was no ordinary 747 even at that altitude. I have the Plane Finder app on my phone.
