Are there any members here who aren't aware of the forum's requirement of refraining from posting political commentary in apolitical threads?

Some received the signal 5x5 while others struggle to stop keying the mic. Hate that the few spoil it for the many.

I've never posted there either. But, I think there is a sticky that clearly lays out the rules so you or I could get an understanding of how it works, in case we decided to engage in that sort of thing.

The guidance about posting in someone else’s classified ad hasn’t received the same degree of emphasis as others here like no political comments in apolitical threads, but then I always thought that that was due to its being a, “Well, duh!” common sense sort of thing. What would give anyone the idea that it was acceptable to jump into the middle of someone else’s post and say, “That’s crap; no one should buy something like that”? There are some things that just seem obvious.

I made an off handed comment in a thread yesterday. I didn’t even think of it as solicitation. I should have known better.

Para, your rules are pretty damn clear. It’s not like there’s a bunch of gray area with you. You’re like piano keys. Black and white. Really black, and really white.

That said, once in a while we all probably make a comment and don’t even realize we screwed up. I certainly appreciate the warning, and that you’re pretty cool, and don’t just smash us with the banhammer for a week when I make mistakes.

But the posting political stuff in non political threads... That seems to me like one where it’s not just an accident, or off handed remark. But I also don’t get too involved in politics, so I really think about what I am saying before I post if it has something to do with politics.

Imagine yourself at a gunshow. You know, as in the old days, when people weren't terrified of human contact. As you walk down the aisle, you see a dealer at his table speaking with an attendee of the show. When you get near to them, you realize they are in the midst of negotiating a deal. You see something you think is not right; the dealer is taking advantage of the attendee, or the attendee is taking advantage of the dealer, or something else seems amiss. Perhaps you know of a more favorable deal for the same item, two aisles over.

Would you have the nerve and the lack of manners necessary to walk up to those two men and interfere? Only a fool, I think, would do so.

Why, then, would you do such a thing here? Would you interfere without fear of repercussions, merely because no one is physically present to knock you on your ass?

Do not interfere, gentlemen, in any ad in the Classifieds section of this forum. Do not make commentary, even if you feel it to be favorable and might perhaps boost the sale of the item or items. Do not post to say that you know of the same item available for a lower price elsewhere. Do not post to 'bump' an ad, though your intent may be pure.

Post in a member's ad only under these conditions: You are interested in purchasing an item or items for sale but you require clarification. You can ask your question in the ad, or you can post that you are emailing the seller with a question or perhaps even an offer.

Or

Post to say "I'll take it" or to make an offer.

No commentary about item quality or price or alternatives. No posts to say "That's a great looking (whatever)". No posts to advise the seller that the item he is selling is manufactured by an enemy of freedom-loving people.

So, questions to the seller with an eye towards purchase are allowed.

Posts signalling email incoming to the seller are allowed.

Offers are allowed.

"I'll take it" is allowed

Other than that, stay out of a member's ad.

If you have a concern that someone is running a scam, or gouging, or anything that seems fishy, use the report-this-post function to alert SIGforum staff members to the problem. That's the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point. This appears in the lower right hand corner of each post.

Can I make this any clearer? Does anyone have any questions?

My wife has a new hobby and is participating in local Facebook groups. She tells me she commented on a persons for sale ad that the price was too high. I let her know that was not proper etiquette and most frown upon that type of behavior. I said it was an easy way to get a bad rep. She really had no clue about any of it. She did delete the post. I would think this would be common sense in today’s world, obviously I’m wrong.

It’s been crystal clear pretty much forever, but some people really miss being the hall monitor, checking passes, and reporting on others.

I figured there’s enough Karen / Chad-ing to do in the real world, but apparently not.

I think that I may have done a “free bump” in the past on some items that I liked but could not afford at the time.

My apologies if so.

Several (many?) times, the seller of an item has said, "I do not know how to post pictures," so I have added GaryBF's excellent flow chart for that procedure to the thread.

I guess I should not do that, going forward?

Unsolicited comments or "approval" can deprive both the seller and buyer from completing a low-profile transaction.
