After mowing in the afternoon it was just dipping below 60 last evening which is about ideal for an outside fire so I made one, the first this fall. I started the fire then went in and grabbed a beer and cigarillo to enjoy along with two beef bones out of the freezer for Sophie and Strafie.

The fire ring is nothing fancy simply cut stones from the chimney in the original house on the property that had fallen down years ago. But fancy or not there's nothing like sitting out at a fire on a crisp evening.

And for dogs there's nothing like working on a nice bone.

Thanks it really was. The picture reminds me I need to cut and split that last pile of wood by the dogs.

Looks good! I have been building outdoor fires for about the last 3 weeks at my northern Mi cabin. The evenings have been nice and cool with the day time highs still nice and warm.

Enjoy!!!

The dog on the left in the photo -- is that an English Mastiff?

Thanks Rick. Once the days get short I bet you are having some chilly evenings in northern Michigan!

V-Tail she's not as big as a Mastiff. "Strafie" appears to be a boxer mix and just showed up last year.

I love this time of the year. Crisp cool air, no bugs, perfect sleeping weather with the windows cracked. And yes tailor made weather for sitting by the fire. We have two fire pits on our lake property. One is a Solo stove that sits under an open shelter for those cloudy maybe rainy days. We can still be outside enjoying the fire and stay dry. The other sits in the backyard open air obviously. This one is set up so I can also cook on it.

On a nice clear day I will start a fire on the one in the backyard mid afternoon. By evening it's a nice hot campfire. I will sit out there well after dark listening to all the sounds in the woods. It's like therapy.

You're right it's a delightful time of year. I enjoy listening to all the evening/night sounds too, I love hearing owls that were calling to each other as it got dark.

That looks about perfect! Flying home today from Madrid after 3 weeks in Spain...I'm hoping our weather is like yours when I get there. Some time by our fire ring is definitely on the agenda!

It's getting chilly in the evenings here.

When I get this flooring project finished, I'll be back to evenings at the "patio campfire." And boy, am I looking forward to it!

We need a good fall rain here and then a camp fire is in order. Still a bit too dry and risk for a brush/grass fire is not worth it right now.

One of my favorite things to do. I use a solo stove. Less smoke.

Reminds me I have a owl house to put up yet in the next week or so. Breeding season is coming.

I didn't know there were owl houses? I'll look into them myself.

I got mine on Amazon but if you're handy with wood and have the tools they are easy enough to build. We have several species of owls in our area. Often heard rarely seen. I'm told it may take a couple of seasons to get owls nesting in a box after you place it. I plan to put it up this weekend. I won't know until next spring if I get any live ins over the winter. Apologies for drifting on your thread. Razz
