Hand gun cleaning kit or must have
Looking to spruce up my gun cleaning kit. Is there a kit you all like or do you ala carte everything? What are some must haves?

I go a la carte.

1. Slip cleaning solution
2. Slip EWL
3. Hoppes bore snake
4. 2" cloth pads
5. bore rod

I purchase everything la carte as I find most kit quality lacking. One of the best find was this modular toolbox system for storage.

A "channel cleaning tool". Makes it easy to clean slide rails. 9 bucks on Amazon.

Cotton swabs. Not the crappy Q-Tips; the medical grade swabs with long wooden stick handles.
The cotton is wound tightly and doesn't come off.
Great for cleaning nooks and crannies, and for applying oil or grease.

I use Dynarex 6" Cotton-tipped applicators, found on Amazon.

The wooden handle cotton swabs are great. You can buy in a big pack. Think Midway USA.

I like simple. Think Otis. Both pistol and carbine kits.

I like using one of those $10 throw away toothbrushes that has a vibrating head. It really helps break up and get to the gunk in the hard to reach areas.

I a al carte everything.

Along with a big bag of cotton patches, get a pair of these collapsing scissors. The work very well.

I also like Tipton Deluxe rods for pistols and Max Force rods for rifles.

I use plastic "credit card" wrapped with a couple patches fits nicely inside rails.

This thread is timely for me. Somehow I’ve misplaced my cleaning kit. Looks like it’s time to put something together.

An ultrasonic cleaner can eliminate much of all that stuff.

You would only need a brush, some bronze brushes, a mop, and pads.

You still have to go thru the motions of cleaning, but it's a breeze.

Do you own just handguns?
If not, "we're gonna need a bigger boat".

TXLe has a good piece of gear.
A good tackle box (like fishermen use) is also great!
Extra bronze brushes, toothbrushes, a small pick (helps getting off caked on carbon), I have 3 bore brushes for the popular calibers, a small container of Balistol, carb or non chlorinated break cleaner, the long, wooden q-tips, a 18"x18" piece of old sweatshirt that I use as a mat, another smaller rag.

Gotta have some tools!
There's an armorers hammer in there too.

Everything is ala carte' in my kit.

I've been told that they are good for cleaning jewelry, too.

I got the one from Brownels that is a two stage setup.
A cleaning cycle and then you add the oiling/ protecting stage.

Caution-when using brake cleaner, wear wrap around, close fitting safety glasses. Last summer I had the nozzle backwards and got a blast dead in both eyes. I ran for the kitchen dish rinsing gun thing and flushed until the kitchen floor was thoroughly soaked. This was another accident that COULD have been avoided. On the other hand, a 60's era Great Western 22 revolver that had been totally gunked up got nice and clean.
