So I am looking into relocating to Florida. I have a potential career opportunity outside Atlanta. Looking at Tucker, Gwinnett Place, and Lawrenceville. Far from set in stone, but are these areas safe? I watch a lot of YouTube and Atlanta seems pretty damn unsafe overall.
Probably a stupid question as it’s 2024, but I’m white and my wife is Korean. That shouldn’t be an issue, right?

From what I read online, it appears that Georgia is rather 2A friendly. Seems that scary black rifles are okay, no magazine restrictions, and constitutional carry was legalized in 2022.

Anything I should know about that y’all can tell me?

We have at least one member here living in Lawrenceville.

We lived in Alpharetta John’s Creek area and loved it.

Also like Duluth and have been back twice since leaving in 2020.

No problem with your wife being Korean here.
We have a large Asian community here.

Tucker is mainly an industrial area.
Gwinette Place area is downright over crowded.

Lawrenceville is your best bet.

Yeah, You should be fine East of there.

Chambodia is a bit iffy and Done-woody is traffic madness.

As SC implied, Lawrenceville is the best bet of those areas you mentioned.

That's a big swath of area that you're asking about.

L'ville is your best bet but depending on what your commute is, I'd consider Loganville, Grayson, or even Snellville if you need to be south of L'ville.

Getting bigger, then Norcross or Duluth are good bets. Substantial Asian communities there.

Those areas are all outside the Perimeter (I-285) and northeast of the city of Atlanta so mostly safer areas.
Tremendous growth has happened there in recent years so the usual traffic issues are to be expected.
Without knowing more specifics it’s hard to give much more advice.
There are a number of SF members in the area and the laws in Georgia are as friendly as they can be.

The area I would potentially be working in is Tucker, GA. While my wife loves the city, I do not, as much. I also understand that there is a lot of prejudice towards fair skinned folks in Atlanta, so that is part of my reason for wanting to go farther out, than toward the city.

The Atlanta metro area is a lot more than the City of Atlanta.
Like most larger cities, I'd stay away from some areas much as possible.

Most of the population of the area is well outside the city itself. The areas you've mentioned are all well outside. The city itself has a population of around a half million and the Atlanta region is over six million.

I live almost an hour away and haven't been to the city itself for several years except to pass through on the Interstate going south or on my rare trip to the airport.

I've lived in the region since the 70's and if I had to do it again, I'd be likely to move here from almost anywhere else. Costs are reasonable and opportunities abound.

In Lawrenceville look at 30043 ZIP (where I live), I wouldn't live near Tucker or Gwinnett Place, more shady than not. There are very nice areas of Duluth. As mentioned, a huge Asian population around Duluth, Suwanee, Johns Creek and Buford. Basically north and east Gwinnett County are mostly good places. Walton county and Rockdale county have lots of nice areas as well, HWY 78 runs right in to the Tucker area

A crap ton of my business acquaintances live in Oconee county and Morgan county, up and coming wealthy area

Lottsa Traffic! If you can, make a test drive from where you are looking for housing to work site during peak hours.

Housing very expensive in nice neighborhoods.

My son lives in the Peachtree Corners/Norcross area. He might be able to help if you have a question.

Ahhh yes…Mathew’s cafeteria…great food! I’ve eaten there multiple times. My best friend lives in Tucker….Ive visited often and actually am flying into ATL in about three weeks again….we often go on fishing expeditions together, he’ll fly up to the northeast or I’ll fly south…this trip is a week long fishing trip to Steinhatchie Fla. fishing the Gulf.
I like Tucker….ive never felt “unsafe” there and always had pleasant visits. Even as a “yankee” in the south….everyone was super friendly

I would look to locate as close to where you'll be working as possible. All of those area are safe but crowded roadways are the norm.

If you will be working in Tucker then Tucker, Northlake area is where I'd settle. Lawrenceville is not much different than Tucker, just farther away.

I think Snoop Dogg is moving to Oconne as well. Seems they want to be Gwinnett.

Are there any good beaches in Georgia?
Looking at Google maps, it appears to be all these weird little inlets and islands.

Are there alligators?

Aside of the surprise snowfalls like 2014, what are the winters like? Does it get cold, like jacket weather?

What’s with property taxes? They seem ridiculously high on some houses, and some seem pretty normal. Looking at Zillow, on a $400k house, I have seen the average around $4500, the low at $700 and the high at $5600, however they are all over the board, with no real rhyme or reason. (For perspective, on a $600k home in AZ, your taxes are around $2400).

I live in the middle of your search area. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't live in Gwinnett. I would look at Forsyth, Barrow or Jackson. I would consider Tucker a location to commute to.

If you want to live in a suburb of a major city, Forsyth. There is a lot it has to offer proximity to a lot of great things, from the city of ATL, Chattahoochee, to the mountains in North GA.

You want more space and a lil more distance between your neighbors, look to barrow or Jackson counties. Walnut Grove in Barrow, Jefferson city in Jackson.

No Alligators in ATL. You are moving to Northern Georgia (I wouldn't call it North GA that has a connotation all its own). As a former resident of Florida including So Florida. NO there are no beaches in GA.

Winters are jacket weather, we had some days of freezing temps.

Property taxes are by city and or county etc... some areas are unincorporated .... etc...

The city boundaries are very irregular, one neighborhood is a part of a city across the street is a different city / town.

Black Ice is the more common issue and it's a complete lack of control.
