On this date December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pear Harbor, Hawaii by bombing navel vessels anchored in the harbor as well as bombing the airfields where our aircraft were parked .. This unpreovoked attack woke up a sleeping giant..... Let us never forget..... ............................ About 10 years ago was at a buffet resturant at late lunch time when i spotted a table occupied by 3 men with female companions and the 3 gentlemen were wearing veteran baseball caps that had the name of a naval ship...when I realized the ship name "USS ARIZONA"
I approached the table all 3 men stated that they were there but were on shore at the time of the attack....Thanked them for their service.. But what are the odds of finding these 3 veterans together .. God bless our troops be they past / present / future. ...........drill sgt.

We visited the USS Arizona Memorial about 10 years ago. A sacred site for sure. That was absolutely a great generation of Americans.

My late FIL was at Schofield Barracks then. He was in a chow line when the attack started, similar to the scene in "From Here to Eternity". A very busy day for him. After the attack, he spent the next six months manning coastal artillery emplacements on the island, waiting for a possible invasion. RIP Bill.

I was stationed at Schofield Barracks in the early '70's. The quad's ( barracks) still had evidence of the December 7, 1941 attack. We also visited the USS Arizona Memorial several times. Once you visit there your life is changed......

I write my 5 year old who wants to be a pilot, a note and place it in his lunchbox. His pre-K teacher reads the notes to each kid. Today's note was (I'm paraphrasing): On December 7th, 1941 - "A date which will live in infamy - The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." The skies above Pearl Harbor were filled with Japanese warplanes. Only 5 American pilots were able to take to the sky and battle the Japanese. Let us honor those brave pilots and the men and women that defended Pearl Harbor that day by remembering our ATDL principles of having a positive Attitude, being Tough, maintaining Discipline, and spreading Love.

A day that will live in infamy. A dear family friend who became a science teacher after the war and peaked my interest in science was a B-17 crewman stationed in Pearl during the attack. He gifted me his wings many years ago.

According to my late Uncle a second cousin of his died in the attack. No idea of his name unfortunately as I didn't ask at the time.
