Shouldn't there be some sort of majority vote or something? Cornell U. Or even Cornell city? County? "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

I was thinking the Gettysburg Address one of the greatest American speeches ever given. Seems even Wikipedia agrees. "Lincoln's carefully crafted address, not even that day's primary speech, came to be seen as one of the greatest and most influential statements of American national purpose." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gettysburg_Address To hell with them. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

Read somewhere that this was a temporary display, not a permanent fixture. That doesn't explain why the display area is now vacant. The 'temporary' excuse didn't really pass muster when coming from a University that also has one of five Addresses in Lincoln's handwriting.

Either a dean or the head of the library, received a 'complaint' and was in full agreement which was all the impetus needed to be acted upon. It likely came not from a student but, from a wealthy donor, someone with an endowment in which the school is well connected with but, must remain anonymous, to protect the trust.

The professor got the info from some librarian that someone allegedly made some complaint, exactly what no one knows. Totally useless non-info. Possibly fake, even. I like the College Fix, but this is stupid. Q

Cornell University is in Ithaca NY, about an hour SW of Syracuse and overlooking Cayuga Lake. This is no surprise. I grew up and went to college in Cortland, about 30 minutes away. Ithaca has long thought of itself as the liberal, hip center of the universe. Heck, they even declared the city a nuclear free zone about 40 years ago! I made my escape from New York 36+ years ago and have not looked back. Here's the short article Fox mentioned, no new details: https://www.thecollegefix.com/...ddress-lincoln-bust/ Cornell library removes Gettysburg Address, Lincoln bust JENNIFER KABBANY - FIX EDITOR •JUNE 28, 2022 Someone complained, and it was gone.” That’s all Cornell University biology Professor Randy Wayne said he has been able to determine so far about the whereabouts of a longtime display in the Ivy League school’s Kroch Library of a bust of President Abraham Lincoln in front of a bronzed Gettysburg Address plaque. Wayne, a frequent visitor to the library, which houses Cornell’s rare and manuscript collections, said when he stopped in several weeks ago he noticed the display had been disappeared. “It’s been there since I can remember,” he told The College Fix in an interview. He asked the librarians about it, and they had no details to provide, except to say it was removed after some sort of complaint, he said. It’s been replaced with, “well, nothing,” Wayne said. The walls are white, according to photos Wayne took for The Fix. The bust and plaque had been on display in the library since at least 2013.

Meh, Lincoln violated the Constitution perhaps more than any other President and the Emancipation Proclamation did nothing for slaves in Northern states. Don't get me wrong, cancel culture is a pox on us all but it's kinda humorous to me when it happens to someone like Lincoln. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Removing the Gettysburg Address and a bust of Lincoln.... This is reminding me of a scene in the movie Inception, where the school teacher is explaining to McConahey's Cooper that the textbooks his daughter with a segment about the Apollo landings, remarking how the Apollo landings were fake, in an effort to get the earth's populace to focus on saving the planet, rather than wishful thinking about exploring. There's a significant (but not large) amount of group-think going on, encouraged by the higher-education system, various politicians and a handful of wealthy individuals/trusts, who believe that ANY and ALL Caucasian figures in the history of the United States, are complicit and guilty of perpetuating racism and bigoted conditions. Doesn't matter their achievements or, even their efforts to undue the conditions of slavery, nope, not enough; they get cast into the same group with the KKK, Nazis (real ones not perceived), slave owners, slave sellers, etc... Lincoln, the guy who gave the Emancipation Proclamation, the speech that pissed off the slave owners the most, according to Cornell, he's a racist.

By that logic, if someone else complains then they should put it back, right? God bless America.
