Looking for an easy park flyer to fly with my seven year old. We have a few elementary schools near us with large fields and he expressed interest in learning how to fly one or watch dad fly one. I learned on a pusher style plane about 15 years ago. Seems like there are many options and I am not sure where to start anymore so I am asking for advice from the RC experts here.

In that small of an area I would start with something like a Champ.

Keep in mind something small and light weight needs to be flown with very little to no wind so I’m not sure where you live but if it’s always windy then you will need something bigger, heavier and typically faster which is tough for a beginner. If you have someone who can buddy box you I would have a few other suggestions.

The Champ can be launched off a parking lot with the wheels or hand launched at any time and if you get into trouble don’t fight it into the ground just let go of the controls and it will self level and glide to the ground so you can try it again. It’s light enough so that if you are learning on your own you won’t do much damage when you do crash so you can get right back in the air. Extra batteries are also very cheap.

This plane can be bought for $75 with everything you need to get it into the air.

If you already have some experience with a pusher And a fairly large field this plane is a fantastic trainer and has a very strong landing gear. It has 3 different flight modes so at the flip of a toggle switch you can have a docile flyer that only allows small bank angles with the second position allowing steeper angles but not enough to get upside down and then finally unlimited flight.
