I need a tool for some hobby craft.

There are metal dies that are attached to each other (think plastic model kits for airplanes, ships, cars and such). These metal dies are used in a small press to cut paper into the desired shapes.

When separating the dies, I need to use some sort of cutting tool (scissors don't work) that will cut the metal cleanly w/o bending the dies; ease of use with weak hands a plus.

I'm thinking along the lines of a tool that one might use for precision electrical work (ie cutting the wires off a small resistor soldered onto a circuit board).

Looking for good quality made in USA, Europe and/or Japan. But not sure what brand, material, shape to get. Suggestions appreciated.

Maybe something like this (but not made in chicom, etc - USA/EU/Japan).

You might want to check Otto Frei for watchmaker's tools and Stewmac for luthier tools. Both have tools for working on small pieces.

Nice, thanks guys.

One question: it seems like these types of cutters are offered in various 'shapes' or 'angles' - diagonal, oblique, end cut, etc.

For this type of task, is there a recommended angle (again, think about a plastic model kit and cutting pieces from a frame sheet where all the pieces are connected to each other).

They have those exact cutters at my local Ace Hardware, you might try there.

Thanks. Will check. Just to be clear, you're talking about a straight cutter version of the diagonal Klein cutters above?

which ever brand and shape you get just make sure you get the flush cut option. That makes for a very clean cut with little distortion.

Yeah I see the pic is a diagonal, but they had the straight nippers too

I don't really know. 1/16"? 1/32"? What would be reasonable for paper press cutting metal die?

It can the attachment prongs can cut skin pretty easily unless they get filed down. Looking for new cutters to flush cut and make it easier to separate the pieces. Filing is tedious.

The back side of the Klein cutters shown appear to be straight. There look very similar to my Xuron set which is diagonal on the waste side but a great flush cut on the side that matters. You just have to be sure to set the flush cutter on the correct side.
