ForeFlight is a great aviation app, but it is pricey $$$$$. That's fine, if your employer is paying for it.

A much better option (in my opinion), especially for Flight Instructors and Military Pilots (present and past), is WingX Pro. It is FREE if you are a CFI or a Military Pilot.

If you do not qualify for a free subscription, you still might want to take a look at it. Cost is competitive with the other apps that do a similar job, and there are a lot more options for compatible external ADS-B in and AHRS devices, than there are with ForeFlight, so cost can be lowered that way, as well.

WingX Pro is available for iPad, Android, and Kindle Fire devices.
Disclaimer: I have no connection with Hilton Software (publisher of WingX Pro), other than being a very satisfied user.

It’s true my employer pays for my ForeFlight subscription so I probably won’t be changing. But for CFIs it is a good deal. I haven’t tried it to see how user friendly their app is. Happy Thanksgiving V-Tail.

I was talking to the lady at the WingX booth at Oshkosh last July. Yeah, she said it’s free to former military, yes I like free.

I jumped through minimal hoops & put it on my iPad mini, talks to the Stratus ESG, unlike Garmin Pilot.

I’m more used to the Garmin Pilot app, but getting used to WingX. My Garmin subscription expires in May, so a little time yet.

WingX talks to (listens to, actually) both Stratus and Stratux.

What's the difference?

Stratus is the pricey box manufactured and sold by Appareo for seven hundred bucks.

Stratux is a work-alike, based on Strawberry Pi running Linux, that you can get for well under two hundred.

Last time I looked, ForeFlight would only work with the expensive Stratus, while WingX Pro is happy with a number of external ADS-B boxes, including both Stratus and Stratux.

I found how to get if free for CFI but not for military.
