Ugghh
When kid one bought a house I gave him my grandmother’s dining room table and chairs.

He sold his house last week and put everything in storage.

I guess he’s having a midlife crisis (33). Or he hates being a home owner.

So I’m forced to go fetch it because it’ll be cheaper than having it shipped to Texas. He doesn’t have a truck-I do.

It’s 19 hours one way…so 2 10 hour days of driving.

Ya for me. Plus I have to wrap it. Guess I’ll take the legs off and wrap furniture blankets and then in thick plastic sheet. And put the chairs in the cab, or something close.

Good thing is I get to see my buddy (redacted) the District Attorney Investigator for the area.
Plus his wife’s gonna be out of town, so no adult supervision = premium bourbon

That’s a hike

I have one coming up in early June. I’m doing about 3700 miles one way - about 70 hours. But I have 6 weeks to rest up for the trip back in August

I have to move my daughter into her dorm this fall; in Manhattan. I'd much rather be driving to NC or TX.

Last fall, I drove solo in a U-Haul to Fort Rucker with my sons stuff. It was supposed to be a 13 hour drive and I was going to stay in Auburn overnight. Unfortunately, there was a football game that night and the hotels were charging $500 a night. I decided to just go all the way to Enterprise and ended up driving 19 hours in one shot. I started hallucinating on those dark Alabama country roads because I was so tired.

There is a statue of a Boll Weevil in the town square in Enterprise, Alabama.

Little known fact: There are actually two different types of Boll Weevil, a large one and a smaller one.

Not much is known about the larger one, but everybody has heard about the lesser of the two weevils.

Did the drive down to Orlando area and back this past week…I was complaining about that but your trip will suck a lotttt more.

Have fun. Podcasts make the difference. Hell of a lot easier than books on tape lol

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

I wouldn't want to deny you a visit with an old buddy, but perhaps U-Haul or Penske might be worth a call?

And, of course, there is always the Pods option.

All much more expensive than me driving my truck. I’m retired so my time is free to me.

Ahoy!

Made it there ok, managed to get thru Atlanta and came up thru 85 so I was set up to visit my favorite gun shop in Wendell (east of Raleigh) Perry’s. Before getting to the big kids storage locker. I got 2 bricks of primers (at a super duper sneaky discount I wasn’t expecting)

He had moving blankets and tie downs for me, took 20 minutes. Then he took me to dinner. Where he began slamming martinis like they were water-happy St Pattys! I was not amused because he then became emotional and loud. Apparently he’d quit drinking for about six months to lose weight. and that day was the first one he’s had. I drove him home to his apartment and dropped him off at the party next door.

Went to my buddy’s in WilTson, had a taste of Elijah Craig toasted barrel.

That was some smooth bourbon.

Went to bed. And the kid didn’t call me to get him outta jail-so there’s that.

He’s definitely having a midlife crisis-he’s quitting the hair cutting business and going to NYC to try to become an actor. (Shakes head slowly) “ mmm hmmm”

Got up and blazed out the door to begin my trek back.

My packing wrapping worked and I went down I95 to SC and west on I20.

The trip thru Atlanta at 1500 and on I20 was sooooo much better then I85,75 or 285 ever. If it wasn’t for my rents in WNC I’d never take 85 again.

Currently in Meridian Mississippi and I will set off at sunrise tomorrow.

Can’t wait to get back to Texas and my family (and my bed)
