its been 12 years ,
but while listening to the police scanner , while living in Phoenix , AZ.

it was very common ( 6 or 8 times per week end) for a guy to walk out of the circle K's with 4 cases of beer and hop in a waiting vehicle.

the really stupid shop lifters would be seen getting on a bus, they almost always caught those guys.

but I never heard any of the other thieves get caught.

Years ago, a friend of mine was into home brewing. He used old Rolling Rock bottles to bottle his brew. Couldn't give it away because everyone thought it was RR.

The old Duquesne beer was pretty bad. They went under in 1972, but I think someone revived the brand.

I must have horrible taste in beer. I actually prefer the cheap American beers. Good for my wallet though.

Beer is like cheese. They both have a long history that revolves around the culture and influences of country/region. You might like a wedge of cheese from an expensive wheel, or you might like:

Yesterday a case of Bud Light cans was $9.99 at Lidl, and $9.99 at Walmart last week.

It is 90 here with high humidity and I have been out mowing. I got a very cold can of Miller High Life out of the fridge and it tastes mighty good.

Used to call schaffer’s beer “Layoff Beer” because it was what was affordable if you got laid off.

I remember “Texas Pride” beer. Someone said it was Lonestar or Pearl seconds. Nasty stuff.

In late 60s, used to buy Ballentines for .79 a 6 pack in Houston. All a 21 yr old could afford. Visited New York City in 73 and surprised to see Ballentines sold as a premium beer in Manhatten A&P.

In late 60s, before light beers, I used to consider Schlitz a treat. Liked the taste. Very flavorfull. Guess the intoduction and use of light beers changed taste preferences. Schlitz tasted awful last time I tried one about 20 yrs ago.

At college in the late 70’s I became friends with some guys from the Philly area and they were raving about their local beer which we started getting for about $7.50 for a case of 16 ounce returnable bottles. Little known brewery called Yeungling. The only bad part was trying to get four college kids to not lose a single bottle so we wouldn’t lose the deposit.

Is that with or without amortization of the equipment and your labor, or just the cost of the ingredients? Wink

Could easily be with equipment amortization included, but not labor...that's got to be enjoyable hobby time like anything else to pencil out.

It takes me about 5 hours of actual labor to brew and keg a batch...the "work" though has lots of down time as the grain is mashing, then boiling, then a week plus fermenting etc.

Smile

It can be done with good results with cheap equipment and reused bottles. Wink

Brewing can be a money pit like any hobby of course. The most dough is in my kegs and keg cooler for sure. Bottling gets old real quick. Wink

I had Genny Cream ale 10-15 years ago and it didn’t immediately make me regret being alive. That’s the best rating I can give it.....

and Storz?

There a gun shop in Flagstaff called “Ruff’s Sporting Goods.” As recently as the ‘90s though it was called “Ruff’s Guns and Liquor.” They had a large elevated sign out front that they could post deals on. A typical sign in those years might say:
Bud Light 12-pack—-$5.99

Ruger P89–$379

The good old days. I assume they’re still great people.

Add a lime wedge to a high Life and you got yourself a "Dirty Corona". Wink
