"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

The weekend I turned 21, (1968) Busch was on sale for $.79per six-pack. If I remember correctyl, we bought 14 cases.

In Vietnam. beer was $.10 per can. One of the only good things about the place.

My main experience with "frugal beer purchasing" was back in college, during a period when I was relatively broke. At a certain liquor store nearby, my buddies and I figured out you could get a 12 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon and two 40 ounces of Mickeys malt liquor for either $9.98 or $9.99 after tax.

So a $10 bill would get you enough booze to take to the party that weekend and get decently buzzed, plus a little bit extra to share with friends and/or ladies.

Word.

I don't slam down 10 or 20 beers at a time, so I don't need to buy cheap beer in suitcase quantities.

I prefer having 1 or 2 high quality beers in a sitting, a couple times a week.

I recently learned that if they are low on a particular batch, say High Life, they'll add Coors Light or something into that batch. So your Miller High Life could be part Coors something.

I was surprised by this - you'd think there'd be some consistency.

But I guess shitty beer is shitty beer - who cares, right?

Did he tell you what they do when they're low on both HL and CL?... Wheel the barrels under an incontinent horse!

In my senior year of high school(1974), I would buy 3 qts of High Life for 1.00. Just to wash down 3 morton chicken pot pies for 1.00.

Back in college(late 80's) we could get a large cheese pizza delivered for 5 bucks and a case of Black label for another 5. Split between 4 friends that works out to 3 or 4 pieces of pizza and a sixer for each with a tip for the pizza dude all for 3 bucks. Good times.

I just tapped a 5 gallon keg of home made hefeweizen. Works out to 53 12oz beers at $0.56 per. Good as any craft beer out there too. Wink

I remember being a poor Purdue student and they sold Falls City Classic Pilsner for $3.99 for 24 bottles and sometimes we were too broke for that so we bought 24 cans for $1.99. I don’t believe in praying for money but will admit to praying not to be Falls City poor again.

My recollection is Falls City was so rough it made Busch Light seem like Weihenstephaner.

Big Grin The OP may want to pick up some Falls City and his guests will be begging for Miller High Life Big Grin

Poor college student beers: Schaefer, Carling Black Label, Buckhorn, Hamms, Mickeys. Got puking drunk drinking maybe two 40 oz Mickeys and some hard stuff-don't quite remember. I love G-d because G-d cared for me when I was a teenage fuck-up.

Buckhorn was awful. Awful. Undoubtedly worse than Falls City.

Add a squeeze of lime, a big splash of Clamato, and sprinkle some Tajin on top. Shitty beer turned quite drinkable on a hot afternoon.

Exactly!!! That being said, it sickens me to spend 16.00 on a 4 pack too, but my beer consumption has reduced proportionately as well.

The two absolute horrible beers I couldn’t even drink in college were Olympia and Rolling Rock. Went to a party with a free keg of RR. Half a cup and I went to the store to buy some miller lite. Eek

Is that with or without amortization of the equipment and your labor, or just the cost of the ingredients? Wink
