I'm looking for an online source to file a 2021 1040X.

Since filing my 2021 tax returns, I found a 1099-INT that I overlooked and didn't include on my 2021 returns. Do you know of an online site I can go to, to fill out a 1040X and calculate the penalty and interest due?

I filed my 2021 returns using TurboTax but have been unsucessful navigating their sight to file a 1040X

I am surprised the IRS did not catch that. I might be inclined to leave it alone if it is a small amount, but wait for better advice on this for a tax expert.

IRS's computer will catch it if the 1099-INT was loaded into the IRS data base. You can go online directly to IRS & after signing up & you can see all that was filed on your account. If you are married your spouse must set up a separate account. The letters telling you how much you owe for 2021 probably will be sent out Apr thru Oct 2023. Your penalty may have already maxed out. If the interest was $15 or less it may be ignored by IRS.

The IRS will takes years to discover the error and you’ll still be responsible for the interest and penalties. Best to file the 1040X.

The 1040X is not bad to do manually. It’s basically three columns, one for amounts you filed, one for the correct amounts and one for the difference. You’ll need a copy of the original return as filed and the corrected return then you just copy the numbers to the 1040X. It’s been awhile, but I believe you send the corrected 1040 with the 1040X attached on top.

TurboTax has a 1040X in the program, you just have to look for it.

Open TurboTax, go to Continue Your Tax Return, View>Forms>Open Form> browse down to Form 1040-X Amended Tax Return>Select it>Click on Open form and you've got it

If it were me, I would consider how much interest are we talking about? There's such a concept as material omission. But I'm not telling you not to file a 1040X.

What I do suggest is having a template of checklist for tax forms ahead of time. As soon as I finish filing for last year, I set up reminders and a checklist for the current year. As I get tax forms throughout the year, I file them and check the box.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Tell me if I have this right...

I file a 1040X with supporting documents and a payment for taxes due.

IRS will calculate and send me a bill for penalty and interest.

I've searched online for the 2021 TAX AND EARNED INCOME CREDIT TABLES booklet and can't find it. It shouldn't be this difficult. Maybe I'm getting too old for this shit. If you have a link, will you please share it? Thanks

If you used the paid for program, your data and all of your returns are available. Just log in. I had an issue with a three year old return where I put a item in the incorrect place and got a notice that I owed more money. I went back to the original return and filled an amended return. The income was reported just in the wrong place so no additional money was due. Point is, that data is still there.

Can I pay the IRS by phone even though I haven't mailed the 1040-X yet? If so, will interest stop accruing at that time?

I would doubt it. It is hard enough to get them to answer. The interest should not be much unless your are looking huge amounts you did not include.
