So, almost a year ago I got hold of my sister's Asus laptop. It had "vanished" among her friends and I threatened to have it located by friendly imaginary hackers in high places. When it reappeared, the touchpad wouldn't work. I tried everything possible and even weird stuff to no avail. W10 and Asus touchpad don't play well, a documented fact. Tried every internet tutorial both in english and Spanish, called support. No go.

Since I knew nothing about the machine past history I took another path. Replaced the HD and started from scratch. Still no joy.

Resignated, I used the machine with a cordless mouse for a long time. Then I decided I couldn't give up and bought an SSD and started from scratch one more time but downgrading to W7. The thing simply wouldn't work. The icons never showed up, I could see the process running but that was it. Concluded the unhinged, loose camera, dead USB machine also had a pad hardware issue. The thing has a decent gaming video card so I can't give up just like that.

Yesterday I failed to install Samsung phone software. Both programs froze while running. That was it.
I really know my way around these things, sometimes I decide is my mood that affects them and a later try ends successfully.
Right now I noticed a new icon next to the clock. Smart gesture is up and running, it opens it works and the touchpad is fully operational. Haven't messed with it in months.

Go figure...

Asus smart gesture is a bit of a fuck show. When it works it's better than Apple but when it doesn't it's a real mule.

AND IT WENT TU ONCE AGAIN!

So, I've enjoyed Asus Smartgesture for ten minutes, maybe, in over a year of owning This Machine. I restarted the laptop And the software resumed it's unbelivable And extreme low profile.

Have fixed And worked with hundreds of portables over the years, Believe that touchpad And mouses are not precisely the latest gizmo And prone to surprises, but This is ridiculous.

Had Asus in high regard until now.

There are a couple of fixes; one is to hit the Asus website and download a clean version of Smart Gesture. Another is to simply click on the Smart Gesture icon in the Tray. That sometimes causes it to wake up.

But the first, when I got the machine, they were all fresh downloads and installs. Started with fresh partitioned drives or brand new ones.
Hardware drivers in before moving to setup programs, etc

What popped up last night was the icon, had never shown up on my tray before.

I suspect Aliens did it.
