My iphone is not capable of blocking area codes or prefixes. Can anyone recommend a third party app that will allow me to do this?

Most SIP/VoIP providers support this sort of blocking/diversion. In practice, you'd obtain a DiD number and forward calls that pass a filter to your mobile number. Alternatively, you could run a softphone app on your device that connects to the SIP provider's server eliminating the necessity to forward.

Or, you could run your own SIP server on a computer you own or a cloud VM you subscribe. This would give you the ultimate flexibility and features, but requires an investment in time and learning that most people find too onerous.

I don’t understand why you would want to do that.

My iPhone is set up to divert calls from anyone not in my contacts to voice mail. But scammers usually terminate the call before the recording begins.

Texts from unknown senders are always diverted to the “Unknown Senders” box. Once a week I open the Unknown Senders box, select all, then “Delete and Report Junk”.

You can also block individual phone numbers once they show up on your phone. This is what I do.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
