Congrats! We got lucky. We were offered a transfer from San Francisco in '93, and now live in small town KY. We were blessed with good fortune. You will love TN. We have considered moving there ourselves, as the taxes are lower.

Water. We wanted to build a homestead and Utah doesn’t have enough for the people who are already there let alone the population projected to come. Here in Tennessee the average rainfall is recorded as 3.14 inches per month. In Utah it might be half of that. We didn’t want to struggle for water. On top of that politically, the State is turning purple. I can’t put my finger on why other than to say people who should know better, don’t. So we left. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Got it, makes sense. In my case, I want to be close to skiing, mountains, lots of public land, and the desert southwest. I lived in CO for 25 years, but it's way too blue for me now. When I moved there (1988), I was impressed because pickup trucks had gun racks in the back window. Now, if I went back, I'd have to get rid of at least half my firearms. So Utah, despite turning purple, checks the boxes for me now. You're right though, it defies reason why they are turning purple. TN would be on my list if it checked more of my boxes. ^^^^^^ I can understand that. We were in that mode when we were younger. Utah is perfect for adventure and discovery. There are so many hidden gems to enjoy there. We just got old lol. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

I'm jealous. PLEASE ENJOY YOUR NEW FOUND FREEDOM! Send messages to us still behind enemy lines on what cool things such as "Full Auto", "SBR" and "Suppressed" is like! Tell us of the great feeling of living in a place where the budget is balanced, and people laugh openly at liberals! I'm stuck for +/- 4 more years. When that day happens, I'm running out of here like my ass was on fire! There's a few factors on the "What & Where next" after I leave here. We are seriously looking at Northern Indiana, Tennessee and Wyoming. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Congrats! I'm envious. IL would be nice if we could get rid of the Dems. Chicago is a beautiful city but its starting to go the way of the other big Dem controlled cities. The wife and I have talked about moving when I retire (hopefully soon!) but her top choice is California. I have told her no-way I'm moving there. Bob Carpe Scrotum

Eschew Obfuscation |
Saw this the other day and got distracted before I could comment. Congrats on your escape! I'm quoting armored's post in full because my situation is incredibly similar. I would be long gone, but the wife will not agree to move and not be able to see the kiddos and grandkiddos. (The only difference we have is that I live in Lake County - a small blessing not to be in Crook County). We have one kiddo in southern Wisc and another in DuPage County. We are almost exactly in between in southern Lake County. The wild card I now have is my oldest kiddo, who currently lives in Philly, is considering a move to Wausau, WI. That would put two kiddos and the majority of grandkiddos in Wisconsin. I'm not crazy about moving into Packerland, but if that's what it takes to get out of this corrupt shithole, so be it. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

My bro-in-law got out of IL and moved to So Carolina. In addition to all the other benefits, his annual property taxes ($1,700) are equivalent to what he paid for one month in Illinois ($1,660/mo) (granted he is in a somewhat smaller house, but not that much smaller). Blew my mind. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

We are with you IT. Set to close on a place in Cedar City at the end of the month. Did elder care in IN and FL since 2020. Now that those responsibilities are complete we are moving back out West to enjoy their great outdoors while we still can. We got used to the lack of humidity during our 10 year stint in Vegas. I absolutely loathe it now.

Congrats on the escape. I have a funny feeling that life will instantly get better. "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

Nice seeing you and your wife. Danny and I got rained out shooting. We should have had more sense and not gone. Don't worry about your FOID. As soon as Illinois sees you got a Tennessee driver's license, they will void it.
