I was waiting to see who would chime in with the "they're el cheapo disposable" line. Roll Eyes

Don't think that's an unrealistic view point, at $2 to $4 retail, not much money invested in production of the item, would expect a limited life for the trays.

Guess it depends on how much Ice one uses, an how well the material reacts to expansion and contraction over time....

I have been using the same two white plastic ice cube trays for 10-11 years now but I don't use a lot of ice, mostly just 2 in a glass of bourbon or in water for guests. I prefer water just as it comes from the tap w/o ice. If / when they fail I figure I'll just pick up a couple more at the Dollar Store.

Don't think I implied it was an unrealistic position at all.

What it was, was not addressing the thread's query about folks' experiences and therefore adding no value to the discussion.

You didn't, the point being in todays world, there's not a lot of things that are made for longevity anymore, everything seems to have a limited life cycle, to be disposable.

Agreed. That said some are better for durability than others. Again something I'd hoped would come out in the discussion.

If you briefly run the bottom side of them under the sink before trying to pop the cubes out, it helps release them.

You can buy "vintage-inspired" metal ones with the lever, but they ain't cheap and are probably crap and Made in China.

GM should ditch the vehicles and just go back to making these.

I broke the handle off a few of those in my day.

Can't add to this conversation, mine has an ice maker.

I use this one or silicone trays. Both work well.

I got it from my grandparents. The doublewide is deluxe for sure haha. I took whatever they would give me. I still have an old yellow Tupperware strainer that is my favorite to use.

Reading what's on those handles. "Ice Slice" and "Quickube"?

Did a quick search and found both vintage brand trays for sale on etsy and eBay. No doublewides though. Big Grin
