It's been a while since I've been to one so me and a buddy drove down to Springfield yesterday morning. $14 bucks to get in. Damn, things just keep going up it seems. Not crowded at all. No untethered kids running around, you could get to all the tables. That was nice. I honestly can say I have not seen so much reloading stuff available in years. Tables with tons of powder. I mean stuff you just haven't been able to find for a long time. Unique, Tightgroup, HS-6, 231, all the IMR powders like 4227, Accurate 5, 7 and 9. Most of the one pound stuff was around 40 bucks. I bought a can of Tightgroup, 4227 and some HS-6. There were tables that had Starlight brass for 44 mag, bag of 100 brand new for 28 bucks. The guy even said if I bought more than one he could do better. All the primers were there but they were still crazy priced. Box of 1000 CCI small rifle but $125. I didn't get any of those. I bought a bag of 300, 62 grain .224 boolits for 20 bucks. Oh, I've always been a fan of lever action rifles but I don't have one in .44 mag. I came across Marlin Model 1894 (Ruger version} when I first got there and just couldn't go home without it. He came down to a price that I could afford so it came home with me. Good to hear it was a great show. I don't mind the admission price or even paying to park, if it isn't 80% jerky and ninja swords. ... stirred anti-clockwise.

Sounds like you did good! An 1894 in .44 Mag is a thing of beauty, and that was a nice score on the bullets, too. The ongoing primer situation is just stupid.

LOVE hearing about good experiences at a gun show and not all the usual complaining and whining. Awesome.

Yup, I was expecting the worst but I had a really good time. Oh, there was a guy there that had a nice table of older Smith & Wesson revolvers. Several 29-2's....all of them were tagged over two grand each. I just might have to get into the old safe and re-evaluate mine. I don't think I paid over five hundred bucks for any of them 20 years ago. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

A .44mag lever action is the next gun I would like. Do you mind sharing what you paid? NRA Benefactor Life Member

Sure. He had it tagged at $1050 and we ended up at $950. MSRP on the rife is around $1300 I believe. Thing is, these are kind of tough to find and I have no idea why that is. My picture does not do it justice. It is a thing of beauty...much nicer than my Winchester 94 AE in .357. I have put about sixty rounds thru her so far and it functioned flawlessly, the action is strong and very smooth. It cycles .44 special just fine. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Thanks, as this gives me an idea of what to try to go for. I haven’t seen many .44 mag lever action at recent gun shows. NRA Benefactor Life Member

Yeah, you really just never know what you will find at a show. We went to a gun show in Lebanon a few months ago, a much smaller show than this one, and there were five or six lever guns in .357, 44 mag and 45 Long Colt. They were Rossi, Henry and a Winchester. Go figure. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.
