Reputable non bank check vendor

hbablerReputable non bank check vendor
Does anyone have a reputable vendor they like for checks? My bank charges $24 a box for plain checks, which I think is kind of high. However I want to go with someone that won't steal my identity, so does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks for the help.

vulrathMy employer purchases checks from Costco, but those are the 8.5x11 ones you can run through a printer. I dunno if they do book checks, but it's worth looking if you're a member.

hbablerHuh, never would have thought of that. Thanks!

egregoreI had my last batch printed up by Vistaprint. It should last a while because I write, at most, two checks a month.

Might want to price MICR printers and ink before you go that way.

BBMWWho actually writes paper checks any more? I pay the vast majority of my bills through my bank's online bill pay. No checks, no stamps, no paper involved. And most that can't get done that way, I cna throw on the credit card, which I pay online (and, no, I don't run a CC balance.)
I had an issue years ago where I couldn't get access to my checks, and had to pay bills. This forced me to set up the online bill pay. I loved it and haven't looked back. Never had any problems with it.

This.
I've had the same bundle of checks for the last 15ish years, and will likely continue to hang onto them for another 15 or more years.
There's only been one time in my life that I've ever really needed my checkbook. That was ~10 years ago when I slid off the road and got the front end of my car stuck in a ditch in a very rural area. The only nearby tow truck was a one-man local operation, and he only took cash or check. Luckily, I had a dusty old checkbook stashed in my car.

Fredward https://www.artisticchecks.comI've had good luck with these. About 30 percent of what the bank charges.

How does this pertain to the OP's question?

V-TailCostco sells checks.
Or, you can do it yourself. You can buy totally blank check paper, and print the boilerplate stuff using CheckBuilder Pro if you're a Mac user. There are similar products for Windows, I just can't remember any right now; I'll update if I remember any.

hbablerThanks for the help,
As far as using checks go, I pay two things with them, my water bill, as my city charges a processing charge for credit cards and a convenience fee that adds up to about $7 on a $150 bill, and I also write checks to my church. Other than that, nothing really.

BBMWMaybe he needs to change his bill paying paradign, rather then just spend money to buy checks?
One think I'd point out (in response to Hbabler's issue with vendors charging to pay by CC.) If the vendor doesn't do EFT with the banks, my bank will print and mail a check (free of charge, to the vendor.) I have a property where the city charges a convenience fee for paying by CC. I pay it on-line through the bank. The city gets it's money, and I don't get charged.

The HOA for my rental property is stuck in the 20th century and we HAVE to send them a check, there’s no other way to pay HOA dues.
OP: our bank also charges a ridiculous amount for a box of checks, I think they all do for some reason.

DaBigBRMy tip: pick a vendor that doesn't require your address on the checks. They are out there. That way you don't have to bother with folks who are sticklers for accuracy in such things. I've moved three times in fifteen years, but my checks are fifteen years old and have the first address.

I pay most everything online, but I do find I need checks. I've used them for years. Didn't know about Wally World or Costco. Vistaprint makes sense, I use them for my calendars (which have been karma'd here).

Only for some types of accounts. I use a credit union. The only account that gives me free checks is the Senior checking account. But are the checks really free? This type account pays me lower interest than the accounts that do not offer free checks.
