I have a new I phone 16 and I am having a problem. If I get a prompt from some company I have called and it tells me "Press 1", I do but nothing happens. I have to say "1".

Any ideas?

make sure you're on the keypad for the call and not the phone app itself.

That may not make sense in the way I explained it, but you can have both of them open, I've had 200 #1s typed out wondering why it wasn't working, and I was essentially putting that number in to dial next. It wasn't the keypad for the call I was currently on.

If you go to "Incoming Calls" in your phone Settings, does it say Banner or Full Screen?

It says Banner. If my keyboard is green it works, if it is white it doesn't.

Try switching to Full Screen.

Ok, I’m confused just reading this.
I have an iPhone 15. If the 9 button keypad is white, it works. I can’t find Banner, anywhere on anything.

If you open your phone app, and tap the keypad icon at the bottom, does the keypad come up?
If you press 1, does it work?

^You find Banner in your phone's System Settings:

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Apps.
3. Select Phone
4. Select Incoming Calls.

You should see the option to change between Banner and Full Screen.

Ah. Mine’s set to Banner. I’ve never tried Full Screen.

But if he’s making an outgoing call, he’d already be in Full Screen, wouldn’t he?

Good point. Not sure about outgoing call.

My iPhone 13 is also set to Banner, but I've never had problems, even on an outbound call. I've heard some people have to change to Full Screen to make their numberpad work during calls.

Well, this is interesting. I’m calling my iPhone from my land line, and switching back and forth between Banner, and Full Screen, and I can’t tell the difference.

Back to maxwayne’s problem, I had an iPhone 12 that the 4, on the keypad, didn’t work. Called the Apple help desk, and after trying a few things, she had me reset and restore the phone.
That turned out to be a 99% fix. Every once in a while, very seldom, it would still mess up. Of course it was always after spending about 5 minutes trying to get somewhere on an IVR. A restart would fix it.
