I stumbled across a great stacking deal for Academy Sports.

First, Academy is doing 10% off anything in the store for current First Responders and Military through 7/4. (To use this online you have to be verified through Id.me, but if you don't want to do that you can shop in store and show your relevant ID card.)

Next, Dollar General is running a special for 15% off Academy Sports gift cards through 7/4.

So you figure out what you want at Academy, get the total OTD price after taxes and LE/Mil discount, then go to Dollar General and buy a gift card (or more than one if it's more than $500) in that amount.

Finally, go to Academy or shop online at Academy.com, buy what you're wanting, and pay using the gift card.

Oh, and also if you don't have an Academy.com account yet, signing up for one gets you a $15 off coupon that stacks with all of this, and is usable online or in store.

(Even if you don't qualify for the FF/EMS/LE/Mil discount, just the 15% off + $15 off is still potentially a good deal.)


For example, I just ordered an OD Green Ruger RXM for $361.25 out the door. Academy normally had them for $429.99 + sales tax, but with my 10% off it was $425 after tax, and a $425 gift card only cost me $361.25 at Dollar General.


So while Academy's prices generally are fairly middling, this stacking of discounts bumps them up to being a really good deal on a bunch of things. A great way to pick up that new gun you were wanting, or a scope or red dot, or a new fishing reel, or stock up on ammo (like Monarch brass cased 9mm FMJ for ~17 cents per round after stacking the discount...), or get the kids new clothes/shoes/backpacks for school, or snag that new putter for your next tee time, etc.
