My 2003 Honda S2000 has been appreciating in value significantly in the last few years. It just turned over 37k on the clock and except for the stock airbox, all OEM parts that were replaced with some minor custom touches are here. Also have a complete extra set of factory rims. The last few years annual mileage has only been in 3 figures.

The notion of getting it appraised or negotiating a value as part of switching from traditional car insurance to classic car insurance has come up here. But no one has any experience with such. Companies? Costs? Claims? Appreciate any input here.

I have Hagerty for my 69 Mach and C6. I don't know if it's good insurance though. Thankfully I haven't had to use it and that's how you find out how good it is unfortunately. But the rates are great.

I just sold my 1953 Dodge M-37 truck. I had Hagerty's insurance on it for the 15 years I owned the truck. If anything happened and the truck was totaled I would receive $25,000. I paid $160/year for the insurance. When I initially got the coverage I had to show a picture of the truck in my garage. The truck is in my avatar.

Hagerty or Grundy's

I think with Grundy's you can pick the dollar amount that you value the vehicle at - independent of an appraisal or blue book value, and your premium is based upon that.

I have a 1989 250GD Mercedes G-Wagon, restored.

I went with Erie as they allow a flat rate insurance value. So I insured for what I wanted. Can raise at any time.

I pay $720 a year for $37,000 in coverage. $500 deductible. Full coverage.

With the classic car insurance from other companies mentioned, they had mileage limits and the car needed to stay registered as "classic" which, again, poses limits on driving here in PA.

I have Hagerty on my 68 Mustang. As Krazeehorse said, rates are very reasonable IMO. I have a $0 deductible and made a claim this past summer when someone dented a quarter panel in a parking lot. Called them up, faxed an estimate, and had a check in hand in a matter of days.

I have friends who use them as well and have heard nothing negative from anyone.

I had hagerty for my land cruiser but ended up switching to safeco classic car insurance because I could get a higher declared value and rates are very reasonable.

I would keep track of recent sales and other valuation methods and then ask how much the insurance company values your car.
Also, do they adjust for the low annual mileage?
Since this is an occasional use vehicle you may be better off leaving it on your regular policy.

BTW, as you likely know, these are a well kept secret to most and a great handling/performing car that's still a Honda when it comes to the other issues.

I have Hagerty for my 67. I think $35k coverage. They actually talked me into upping it from about $25K a few years ago. I've never filed a claim.

Hagerty on both of mine. All I have ever had.

Never filed, but know a couple of people that have and they were very satisfied with the process.

I have Hagerty for my 1952 Chevy Pickup. Some classic car insurance companies limit driving your vehicle to parades, car shows, and the like.
Pays to check.
Also, be aware that getting Historical plates may come with restrictions.

I have two(2) of my classic cars insured with American Collectors Insurance Co. They are affiliated with USAA who I have been with for decades. I determine the value that I think my cars are worth and send them photos. I am not insuring 200K dollar cars!! I have only been with them for a couple of years, but so far, so good. These cars get driven very little, so the premiums are o.k. in my way of thinking.

I am preparing to dump USAA across the board so this is NOT an option for me. See https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...970085484#4970085484

FWIW I would recommend you look VERY closely at your policy regarding repair parts (they won't be OEM and may be whatever they can find at the cheapest price) and if totaled the value you'll be paid.

Hagerty for both my Roadrunner and Hellcat. Had a claim on the Roadrunner several years back. Some scumbag broke into a bunch of self storage units where the car was stored. Thankfully they didn't screw with the car, but they opened the door against those steel walls, and skidded a box of parts across the fender. Light scratches, no dents, or dings. I was very lucky. I provided the Police Report to Hagerty and they paid my body work guys estimate, something I would consider overkill. Things worked out well, car is still perfect.
They only thing that turned me off a little bit is before they would insure my Hellcat they wanted a copy of my High Performance Vehicle Resume. Wtf?
I compared their rates against Grundy when I bought the new Dodge, and they weren't close enough to switch since I knew Hagerty paid my prior claim without any problem. Agreed value is nice too, so you pretty much dictate what you want to pay. Good luck.

My 2006 S2000 has 46k miles and is dead stock. I never considered anything but my normal auto plan with Travelers. Maybe I should look at something else.

My car spends more than 99% of the year in a garage.

No such consideration with Nationwide.

Switched to Hagerty.

There is an agreed value.

Pleased with the premium, but have never made a claim.
