I no longer follow baseball and nearly missed this game between the White Sox and Yankees. I'm glad I didn't. It was quite a production. Beautiful field, the wooden scoreboard with a ladder for the kids to climb up and hang wooden numbers to show the score, spectacular sunset in the background during the game, all the home runs hit into the cornfield (I remember doing that as a kid). The camera work, especially all the drone shots, was wonderful. And it was an exciting game. All the runs were scored on home runs, 3 for each team, with the White Sox winning 9-8 via a walk off 2 run homer in the bottom of the 9th.

It was cool to see Kevin Costner and all of the players walk out of the cornfield to start the game, then line up and all the players removed their hats and stood respectfully while the National Anthem was sung. But, what else would you expect? After all, "It's Iowa"

Maybe James Earl Jones famous speech (which was repeatedly shown during the game) about "the way things were, and could be again", will resonate with a few people who saw it during the game.

I don't follow baseball.

I find it boring, mostly.

I don't care about any team other than the Texas Rangers, since my wife's family is from Texas. I used to care about the Indians, since my family is from Ohia, but after their woke renaming crap, I don't care about whatever they 'identify' as now.

I never saw "Field of Dreams," and am not a Costner fan (though he was amazing in Dances with Wolves."

That being said,

THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!

They nailed the antique/old time baseball aesthetic, with the purposefully faded scoreboard, the faded wood dugouts, etc. Watching the players walk through the cornfields was a great touch. I only watched part of the game (wife and nephew watched it), and I quickly lost interest.

The whole combination - the drone footage, the intro with Costner and the players, the camerawork, etc, was one of the best bit of presentation work I have seen for a very long time.

I lingered for a few minutes, the throw-back Sox uniforms really added to the vibe. But when an inning ended with a routine fly ball to the Sox left fielder, his side cocked hat destroyed the illusion and I moved on.

The minor league team up here (Portland Sea Dogs) have a "Field of Dreams" Fan Appreciation game at the end of the season.

They line the outfield with cornstalks, wear a throwback uniform, and walk from the cornstalks all the way up into the stands, shaking hands and thanking the fans, while the speech is playing over the loudspeakers.

It's truly the best game to go to, such a unique experience.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

MLB hit a grand slam homerun with the game in my opinion. If you love baseball you will remember this game for a long time. You couldn't write a more dramatic ending than having Tim Anderson hitting a 2 run homer for the win in the bottom of the 9th. Outstanding!!

I did and I really enjoyed it. Nicely done. I also like Costner and the movie.

My boy watched some of it with me, too.

Yep, thought it was pretty cool. Wish MLB would focus more of its time on improving the game and less on trying to drive fans away from it.

The opening was fantastic. When the players materialize out of the corn I get chills. Great finish to the game too.

The yankees uniforms were also “throwback”. They haven’t changed in 100 years.

The players coming in from the corn the small crowd like a minor league game. The manual scoreboard

Fun fact the first white sox player to hit a walk off home run vs the yankees ? Shoeless Joe.

Even using John Smoltz ( a hall of fame pitcher ) toss batting practice to the little league kids

Jose Abreu now owns the first Major League homer ever hit in Iowa.

All in all good job MLB. Now make other teams play there also in the throwback uniforms. Especially teams with a long history. Giants v Dodgers wearing 1880s uniforms. I’d buy a ticket.
