Just a side note from my "decluttering" post of yesterday: Today I decided I'd better pressure-test the air dryer I built before I plumbed the rest of the system. I was able to come up with two 3/4 inch NPT couplers, a 3/4 pipe plug, a 3/4 x 1/2 reducing bushing, a 1/2 inch close nipple and a 1/2 x 1/4 bell reducer to get from 3/4 pipe to a male air chuck connector and block off the other end of the loop. All out of my stash. After reflowing one joint, the loop holds 100 PSI indefinitely. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Can't tell if that's an aspirational goal, or a warning sign!

Yes. There's a antique/permanent yard sale joint in town that has a sign I live by: "You're not a hoarder if you have neat stuff!" I finished that last set of shelves this morning. Again, didn't throw away a whole lot, but organized what was there so I can find it. Per usual, found some stuff I forgot I had. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I got new Smoke Alarms installed today. The old ones were installed in very late 2009. A few months short of 12 years was too long, I think. They do not have an indefinite life. A new Carbon Monoxide detector was also installed. While the ladder was out and up the AC filters were replaced. And from that view, have you ever noticed how much dust is on the very edges and tops of the ceiling fan blades? .

I dust the tops of fans fairly regularly. My Swiffer duster has an extension pole and a 90 degree bend at the top. A few moments with the step stool while I'm up changing AC filters and the fans get dusted too.

Sunday I fixed the rear door latch and resealed the back window on our F-150. Took a few You-Tube videos but now the window doesn't leak and the rear door is usable. Today I completed a class I'm taking in No-SQL databases.

Today I dumped my tool caddy out onto my workbench and started cleaning, sorting, and throwing away odd bits. Assessing which tools I want to upgrade from Made in China or Hecho en Mexico, hunting down missing tools, and removing duplicates. Also started sorting out all the random fasteners I've accumulated into labeled boxes. I'm tempted to just throw away all of the random screws and just spring for a box set like this as a starter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076...EP7BF3W21DQ849TP0S08

My in laws moved into a smaller house not too long ago. They no longer have a yard as their exterior is all HOA maintained and their backyard is all hardscaped with the exception of two fruit trees. Today I took their mower, trimmer, and chainsaw, and a bunch of odds and ends over from their house so I can clean them up to be sold.

I have an RCA refrigerator from the 60s. Recently, the switch to activate the interior light failed. I took it apart, found a short, and fashioned a new connection out of the sidewall of a .45 acp case and solder to repair it. Works as new.

Father in law dropped off another load of garden implements and power tools to be sold or disposed of. Started in on that. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Aeteocles,

Spent a few minutes cleaning and organizing tools in the shop today. Mostly just scraping old stickers/labels and paint off of tools and chasing down missing pieces.

I have something I call Maintenance Monday. Once a week (pick any day, whatever, it's just that Maintenance Monday has a nice ring to it) and check over your cars or other vehicles. I check the oil and all fluids, tire pressures, brake lights and turn signals and headlights. I inspect wiper blades and take a look at the belts and hoses. I also look at the garage floor, and under the hood, for any fluid leaks. I do a monthly check of air filter and cabin air filter. I really don't think these are worth doing weekly. I include making SURE I have current copies of insurance and registration. I also make sure my drivers license and State ID are current and of when they will expire, and my AAA membership. I have made and printed out copies of the checklists, they're kept on a clipboard, with pen, in the garage. There is a line titled OTHER to utilize if I see something else to keep an eye on, or act on immediately. I also make sure that I always have a supply of certain things in the garage, as well as in the trunk. These items include, but are not limited to, things like oil, other fluids, glass cleaners and cloths, 50/50 antifreeze mix, hand cleaner and gloves, and more. I also keep a set of heavy duty extra long jumper cables in the trunk along with a lithium powered jump box. There is also a 4-way lug wrench (because the lug wrench the factory includes the car with is pretty darn crappy and hard to use. Make sure the 4 way lug wrench has one end that will fit your car. Oh! Almost forgot! This is really important. Make sure you check your spare tire pressure. Don't be like me and get a flat, and then find out the spare is flat. And look at your spare, they don't last decades. They should be replaced after something like 7 years. They deteriorate just like tires on a low mileage operated car. This things have been learned by 48 years of driving and having a valid drivers license. Some of these thoughts were learned the hard way. .

Re-packed the KitchenAid w/ food grade lube. It hasn't been getting used for awhile and it has been slowly separating and leaking out. I hope to use it more regularly as soon as we get cooler temps.

On Saturday I spent most of the day cleaning up random junk that belonged to my father-in-law for sale. Got a lot of it listed on Facebook marketplace, and a bunch more given away on the local "Buy Nothing" group. Made a run to the hazardous waste disposal to dump off two boxes of used oil, paint thinner, lightbulbs, and electronics to be disposed of/recycled. Spent some of Sunday doing the same as above, but also managed to wash 3 cars. Inherited yet another car load of junk from my father-in-law. So much of it is actual junk--things like wifi routers and cable modems from 10 years ago--but some of it is junk due to being neglected (yard implements left out to rust for years). Wished he had just tossed this stuff out rather than packed it up to move, but at least we're getting rid of it now rather than hanging onto it forever. This morning I spent a few minutes fixing a network line tester that had been damaged by leaking batteries. Was about to toss it out, but figured it was worth a couple of bucks still so I took it apart and cleaned it out using electronics cleaner. Powers up and works fine now.

^^^^^^^^ Do yourself a favor. Purchase a can of Caig Deoxit. Best stuff on the planet. Really. That’s Caig, not Craig. Accept no substitute. Caig Deoxit Link I just order it from Amazon but you may have a retailer near you. .

My new neighbor arrived last night at 9pm with a 26' Uhaul. It wasn't much effort to help him unload stuff into the garage. Felt good. P229

Bad run of luck today. My in-laws have been staying with us and providing childcare for us during work hours. We are blessed. My Father-in-law wakes up this morning to find that he has a flat tire. He's running late for an appointment so he borrows my Subaru. On his way back from he appointment about 1.5 miles away from home, the car throws up a Christmas tree worth of lights while waiting at a stoplight. He has the good sense to get the car turned off onto a residential sidestreet and call me. I drive out to meet him, pop the hood and there's coolant spray all up inside the engine compartment. I let the engine cool, top off the radiator and reservoir with bottled water and limp the car home while keeping an eye on the water temp. Temp seems normal, and all the warning lights are gone. Doesn't seem too bad. I get the car home and start looking more carefully. Coolant reservoir is filthy with engine oil. Looks like my head gasket gave out. Assuming my engine is t completely wrecked, it'll probably cost $2600 to fix. So much for trying to take advantage of this hot used car market...but, on the flip side, I'm glad I didn't sell the car to some family who could only afford a 10 year old Subaru with 150k miles on it only to have it shit itself a couple of weeks later. So, my negentropy project for today was to come up with a plan to unfuck my car. I've got a mechanic picked out, and spent a few minutes on the phone with Subaru of America to see if they could extend any goodwill for me. I'll look into flat bed towing tomorrow. As an aside, I got a little plastic bolt sizer. It's a plastic plate with holes cut out and threads molded in so I can check and sort bolts and screws by size. It's pretty neat, and someone is making a fortune selling these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001..._encoding=UTF8&psc=1
