2000Z-71AZ Gov Ducey appointed former Senator Jon Kyl to fill McCain's seat
Something hinkey is going on with this. Kyle is a very safe appointment. Makes sense with our governor being up for re-election this year and mid term elections going on. But local news has been repeatedly reporting that Kyl only agreed to serve until the end of the current legislative session.
Arizona law state that a governor can make an appointment to an empty senate seat but that appointment inly lasts until the next general election. So if Kyle steps down after the current session, that leaves 1 year left until the next general election that someone else will have to be appointed to.
Makes me wonder if there is an ulterior motive going on.

Well, it is said that the Mccain family approved his replacement.
That's a black mark on the guy right out of the blocks in my book.
I'm of the opinion that the McCain family probably are personal friends of Kyl and approve of his generally Conservative position. I don't think one should draw any negative conclusions from their approval.
