We do the best we can with the facts we have at the time.

When you buy something with a larger than average dividend, do you make sure it's in a tax advantaged account, or do you not worry about it?? It seems that if you had this in a ROTH then you'd never pay taxes on it. But then again, I guess you put it in the account where you have money

2BobTannerI haven’t read through this particular thread, and someone else may have already addressed it, but alcoholic beverage producers (distilleries, wineries, and breweries) seem to be fairly stable, even though they could take a hit for a short time.
As I’ve mentioned to my wife, in good times, people like to celebrate; in bad times, people drown their sorrows. Either way, it is with alcoholic beverages they use. And yes, I do own shares in a distillery industry, and that stock value has recovered back to where it was on January 1, 2020.

I have O in both a Roth IRA and a taxable account
I am not 'overly' concerned about the tax implications as I am not in a top tax bracket -- IMO a good investment is a good investment and I don't let tax considerations drive the train as long as we are not talking about significant amounts...
so basically I don't worry too much ... the tax implication is 'manageable'. but i understand some people are pathologically disposed to hating paying the GOV taxes on investment gains.

Well, in my state the taxes become a bigger issue because they want an extra 9.9% in addition to the fed taxes on gains.
Long term, short term, it doesn't matter. They still want 9.9%. This is why we can't keep retires with lots of capital gains in the state. Many move north, generally
(unless one is in a lower tax bracket, in which case it's 9.0% and not 9.9%)

bcereussPretty good 7-day stretch...my (modest) portfolio up 50% over the past month...I'm just sitting tight, and not taking any profits. Of course, I'm like George Costanza-I should do the opposite of whatever I decide...

Can you expand on this belief? I'm genuinely interested and don't know the analysis that goes into making this determination.

I don't mean to speak for the other forum member, however the following link gives info that I think helps support the opinion:

MikeGLIUP 38% on AAL today, 71% overall. I told myself I'd sell once I doubled and put then money in to Delta or Southwest, almost got there today.
