EDIT: Found something for him. Gonne send him $ to take family and his dad out to a nice dinner.

Thanks for all the suggestions, sadly he already had many of them.

My Grandson just got promoted to Lieutenant on the Philadelphia Police Department.

I want to buy him something as a gift, but have no ideas.

I gave him a nice knife when I was up there in the late Spring/early Summer.

Looking for an idea. I don't think a coffee cup or something with his name and rank would do it.

I am drawing a blank.

Bob

That's a possibility, but I think, in addition to his good looks, he inherited my ability to lose pens and pocket knives.

Anybody else got an idea. I may have to send him something in my favorite color-green (cash), but I hate to do something like that if I can come up with an alternative.

He's young, with a young family if that clicks somewhere.

A good pocket flashlight he can carry off duty that has room to have his name, rank and date he was promoted.

That's a good idea, too.

I'm looking at the Surefire pens and lights now.

Congrats to your grandson. One of the guys I used to wrestle with is or was currently working for Philly PD.

Does he have any hobbies or things he enjoys to do outside of work?

Concerning knives check out toor knives as you can have them engrave whatever you would like on their knives. Veteran owned company and make some really nice stuff.

Check out https://modlite.com/

I have their PLHv2-18650. Best light I have ever had. Far superior in beam throw and actual good illumination than any of my Surefire, or Streamlight lights.

Thanks, guys, I don't think he has any hobbies-he's a family man and his son, 5, is a handful.

Buy him a nice Treager pellet grill. Might be more then you were looking to spend but would give him something to do when off with family and friends. Each time he uses it it would remind him of his promotion and who gave it to him.
I recently bought the smaller tailgater model and its been perfect.

I never thought of a Traeger. I sent his wife a text to ask what he now has. We'll see. Thanks all,

Bob

As a Lieutenant he will probably be doing more paperwork, signing off on reports, going to administration meetings and having to take notes, etc. How about a nice Montblanc pen. Maybe it can be engraved with his promotion date.

I’d recommend a nice leather planner.

If I was a shiny new lieutenant (speaking from experienceBig Grin), I’d be pretty proud to receive one of these:
