Yes and this was mild compared to what others have gotten in the state.

Oh it's ridiculous. Mine was 9 years, and to be honest, I never remember seeing hail the size that the insurance company said did the damage. One of my business partners, who has a good size house had 3 put on in 2 years, because of storms. It's so messed up. When I re- model, I am going to go with a 24 gauge metal roof. If it gets a few dings from giant hail, so be it.

It's all about clean living. Just do the right thing, and karma will help with the rest.

We had a tornado pushing golfball sized hail over 100 mph. So yeah. The half pieces over the edges of the hip roof were cracked from the impact. When you look at the shingle and you can see tar and no gravel on it, it’s done.

I would hate to have to take them down to install a new roof in the future, cost isn't that big, ($3,000 for the racking which most could be reused) but labor cost would probably be high. In addition I'm 65, for me and my wife no need for a 30 or 40 year roof. I don't know what to do.

Do you have a garage or other building you could mount solar on? That would be my first choice. Otherwise, if put the best shingles or steel I could afford! 10-15,000 is cheap compared to water damage.
Of course, it also depends on how long you plan on living there.
