Stop Talking, Start Doing |
My wife and I are going to Iceland in the fall (October) for a wedding. We are coming in two days early, so we’ll have a couple nights before all of the festivities begin … we’re thinking two nights in Reykjavík. We’d love to get a feel for city life, before the wedding events take us far and away from the city for the remainder of the week. Any recommendations on where to stay in Reykjavík? We’re looking for something right in the heart of the city … where everything is walkable, and plenty to do. This will be our first time going to Iceland. Also, if anyone has a suggestion other than two nights in Reykjavík, I’m all ears. _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.

I can't help you with accommodations advice, but be sure to take your Platinum AMEX card. Prices in a country where the only natural resources are heat and ice are pretty much off the scale. Drinking comes at a price and you should be prepared to pay upwards of $12 - $15 for a 'pint' of beer or cocktail. In general, the CoL in Iceland is 40% more than the USA.

In the summer of 2021 we spend a week here, it was fine. Downtown isn't real big, this is right in the center. If you decide to take a tour somewhere, the pick-up point is right around the corner. https://www.keahotels.is/hotel-borg We were in country about ten days, we started with two days at the Blue Lagoon, but I realize you don't have time for that. This may not be a problem in October, but ask the hotel about early check in. Most flights arrive in KEF in the early morning, on several days we saw newly arrived tourists asleep in the Borg lobby waiting hours and hours for their room to open up. Consider booking an extra night so the room will be waiting for you, but it may not be an issue after tourist season. 229DAK was in Iceland the same time as us (yes, we met up), he said he'll reply as soon as he gets home from - get this - Reykjavik. This message has been edited.
