Some prayers needed this way...(UPDATE in ORIGINAL POST)
Got a call yesterday from my 93 year old dad informing me that my mom, 83, suffered a massive stroke while sleeping. From his tone, I knew things were not good. She had been fine Friday night, up watching the NCAA tournament.

Packed up the family and got to my hometown as quickly as we could and met dad back at the hospital. Mom was a little alert and seemed to recognize me, my wife and our kids. We’d get a little smile and faint squeeze from her hand. That warmed my heart.

Doctor came in and explained that she had multiple brain bleeds and, at her age and the location, there was nothing they could do. Any attempt to slow or stop the bleeding would cause more damage. So, we had to make the choice to put her in hospice and make her as comfortable as an be. Without the ability to swallow and because both mom and dad have DNR orders, she will not be fed nor given any IVs. So now we wait.

She appears to be comfortable, but without the ability to speak, who really knows. I still see her in her eyes and I know she’s in there. But my bucket is running very low. My biggest concern is my dad...he’s scared...not of losing mom, but of being alone and not knowing what to do.

I’ve witnessed the caring and concern from this forum more than I can count and I guess I’m needing some of that...for me, my family, my dad and for my mom’s peacefulness.

Thanks everyone... Frown

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for the kind words, prayers and assurance. After 24 hours of struggle, my wonderful, beautiful mother passed gracefully and peacefully at 6:19am this morning. I was blessed to be by her side with my dad, my wife, my oldest sister and her son when she took one final breath and went to be with God.

I will miss her greatly, but find comfort in knowing she is in a better place now. Dad and I have had little sleep, but we have managed to stay busy today and not dwell on things.

Again, thank you for helping me through this rough 48 hours!!!

Prayers said and sent, all while bleary eyed, because your story reminds me of my parents situation not that long ago.

May all of you find peace and know your invisible friends are here for each of you.
