For those in area's where this is an issue what are your remedies or is it not something that needs attention.
I have a roof that is about 5 years old with some moss growth on it. Looking for some info and thoughts and remedies. Thanks guys.

Copper kills moss, and most quality shingles have some copper in them for that reason. You can also install copper strips at the ridge vent, and every time it rains it will run down the roof to hinder it.

There are also sprays you can use. Moss can damage your roof, so if it's an issue don't ignore it.

Great, thanks guys. I have a coil of solid copper iirc 6ga. bare wire. Could I just string it and lay it across the ridge on top of the roof securing it to the eves on both ends?

I use 50/50 bleach/water. Spray it on wait around 15-20 minutes and hose it off. Kills it dead. Which reminds me, I need to get up there and do that this weekend.

Just have to be mindful as to where the solution runs off.

Anyone had luck with a vinegar solution?

I just go up and sprinkle the pellets across the roof laying it on heavier at the peaks every spring.
That's for prevention.

If you have clumps growing they need to picked out, I do it by hand with a small brush then blow it all off the roof and gutters.

My dad n mom have moss on one slope. Dad went to the paint store and got some powered zinc(maybe copper) and had a kid sprinkle a quart along the top of the ridge and just lets the rain wash it down (they don’t get a lot of hard rain). It killed the moss and he told me he had the kid come back last year and re sprinkle it. So annually…

Sounds like a granular Moss Out will be a good method to address the problem. Probably give it a try.

Zinc will do it too. If you ever see any unpainted flashing or metal on a roof, you'll notice the area directly blow it is generally "cleaner" than the other areas. Galvanized steel has zinc.

I'm not sure that wire would have enough surface area to do the trick.

ORC, of course you're right, it's not mold it's moss. And when I went back to Amazon, I found that lo and behold, I had ordered this:

This is what I had used, and it was for moss, and it worked fine.

I used to have a guy come out and clean the leaves off my roof and the yard every year in November or December. He noticed the moss on the roof one time and told me that sprinkling Tide detergent on it would kill the moss. I didn't believe him at first but let him talk me into trying it. He was right, it did a great job of killing the moss. Only downside was the big mess of suds at the foot of the downspout the first few times it rained after the treatment.

You can get 20 feet of copper flashing and put a strip at the top of your roof like Tim Carter recommended.
