Oh, man... you'd LOVE New Jersey. The corrections union successfully lobbied to change their official Civil Service titles-- state AND county-- to "Correctional Police Officer."

No change in legal authority, retirement, pay, training... but by golly, they're (correctional) Police Officers now.

I only wish I was kidding.

The prison guards sure have a low opinion of themselves and their jobs if they really wanted this change in title.

Perhaps a psychological evaluation would be a better idea.

From the ones I've met, I'd say they have that job because they couldn't get a better job anywhere else and so they became prison guards, a job almost nobody wants.

I'm 62 and watched TV and movies and they were always called guards.
I meant absolutely no disrespect but I thought this guy was going to stand
up and belt me in the mouth because I called the guy a guard. They eventually
made a fenced in cage outside so I didn't have to go inside. Good times!!

In my EMT days (1980’s) I worked with a couple of people who would flip out of you called them an ambulance driver. Personally I didn’t care what I was called I was there to do a job, same as them whether it be put out a fire, cot and roll, flush a hydrant.

Only difference was they got paid, I did it for free. Small town, a lot of people only knew me as “the guy that drove the ambulance”, at least they remembered me as the guy who was there.

Like in the car business, another layer of a created job with a title, Parts Director in dealership groups or in mom and pop single store ownership a Service and Parts Director who’s main job is to bitch at the department expenses down get gross and net profits up, the famous “we’re looking at expanding hours but no money for staff increases” “we need to start looking at revisions to pay plans” and the “why is morale down so much and staff turnover so high since we made these decisions to move this company forward even though there may be a little pain at first!”

Yeah, heard that B.S. in both my management and counterman days. Wrap up cat turds with sugar on it in a Tootsie Roll wrapper and you still have cat turds underneath I used to say.

Yeah, nurse's aid doesn't fly anymore. I just got out of the hospital and they were all referred to as "techs".

Many of today's "techs" do an exemplary job at making hospital stays more tolerable.
They are very valuable assets.

But after four days in the hospital ,I definitely sensed a gap
Between doctors, nurses and techs.
It's a shame the division exists,
Fifty years later.

Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.

During my last stay in the hospital nurses' aids were called "patient care associates" or PCA's.
