I got this ring from my Grandpa when he went. My aunt says it's at least 60 years old when he bought it from his dad, who acquired it from a pawn shop in Indianapolis across from the parking lot he owned. Said it was a lot of money at the time for their family.

Curious if anyone knows anything about it. I don't want to sell it so value isn't my concern, but it looks like it's about 500-1200 based on similar stuff assuming it's legit or whatever.

It appears to be a Tiger Eye Double Cameo Roman Soldier ring with 2 people on it from our homework and my aunt. Engravings inside are 10K and SG which she believes is the original owner's initials?

I don't know the first thing about Jewelry and took me years to realize it even had faces on it. I just stored it away. I guess he really liked it which is meaningful to me because his guns all "disappeared" to various parties after his death and I really wanted one. (He had a full auto M1 Carbine.)

Cool!

It is kinda neat to have mementos from the family.

Just make sure the previous owner was not Rudolph Valentino.

I'm pretending like I get the Rudolph Valentino reference. I even googled it. Not the brightest crayon in the box.

The carving looks vaguely like old Rudy as portrayed in "The Son of the Sheik" (with a beard although he wasn't usually bearded in the old films I've seen). I doubt that it makes much difference in value, but who knows what some people find significant?

Oddly enough, I recently watched a Mysteries at the Museum episode that referenced Rudolph Valentino's cursed ring.

A snippet from The Gemmary - Wear At Your Own Risk – Cursed Gemstones Throughout History Part 2:

RUDOLPH VALENTINO’S CURSED RING

Rudy Valentino’s film career was beginning to blossom. His first lead role in 1919 would catapult him into stardom, and his future looked bright. The trouble began when Valentino wore the tiger’s eye ring in “The Young Rajah,” which was a box-office flop. Over the next few years, the actor was plagued by personal and professional problems, including two divorces, a bigamy arrest and trial, and financial disputes with his studio. In 1926, a mysterious medical episode, misdiagnosis, and surgical complications led to his untimely death at 31.

The ring wasn’t finished there – it wreaked havoc on many more lives as it changed hands following Valentino’s death. His then-fiance, Pola Negri, suffered from a period of ill-health before passing the ring on to her lover, singer Russ Colombo, who died in a freak shooting accident. Colombo’s best friend Joe Casino inherited the ring and was killed when hit by a truck. Joe’s brother Del was the next unlucky heir, and while Del himself escaped death, his home was robbed by a burglar named James Willis. Police fatally shot Willis, and the fateful ring was found on his person. Today, it sits in an L.A. bank vault, which has also felt its sinister effects. Since it has been there, the bank has caught fire and robbed tens of thousands of dollars.

Yeah this was indirectly directed towards Dave. Big Grin

Got me my wife's ring. Told him I'd do a thread on it and I don't know if I ever did.

She wanted something custom and he got it done for my price range. He made me look good and I'm in debt to him for that.
